Low Sodium Diet

Featured Replies

Hello folks,

My father in law, after a recent doctors appointment, has been advised to go on a low sodium diet. The lack of fish sauce is going to be heartbreaking for him!!!

Are there products available in Thailand for people on low sodium diets?

In discussion with my wife, I am unsure how to explain the terms "low sodium"...Does anyone know the Thai script for this? There are hundreds of products available here in the U.S......how is availability in Bangkok?....outside of Bangkok?

Where if available might products be found?

Any "Salt substitute" available?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also suggestions of what products, if any, I should look for...to ship to him from the U.S.

Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions,

Eric and Pan

Dear Eric and Pan,

I am sorry to hear about your father-in-law's health.

"Any "Salt substitute" available?"

You could ask him to try gomassio. There is a recipe on this page:-

http://www.thepmc.org/recipes/brown_rice2.php

The page is a recipe for brown rice, whatever his diet issues changing from white to brown rice will be helpful togeter with a diet that greatly increases the proportion locally-grown vegetables.

Hope you are keeping well,

All the Best,

BillZ

I can't find any info anywhere.....perhaps a good future business oppurtunity.

Isn't it more about balance, ie, my ORS contain plenty of salts, they also contain pottasium. So eat lots of bananas for instance and whole grain food.
