BigSnake Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Good for you, same story for me at another Immigration office, this great service has become somewhat of a norm as of late. I for one hope they keep up the good work at all immigration offices. Now PLEASE tell me the name of your bank that gave you the letter of the balance in your account at NO CHARGE, I want to see if there is a branch in my area. Those S.O.Bs(Sorry old Boys)(?) at Bangkok Bank charge me 200 hundred baht. Again good and common story these days I think all that are eligible to apply for the retirement or married visa in this manner should kiss and think our lucky stars.
Maestro Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 ...just have a very good expires in chiang khan immigration. Thank you for your report, dauu. The Chiang Khan immigration office is still missing on the ThaiVisa map. I have now tentatively put a marker in the general area where I think it might be: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&...32bd2dbcea6793f You can give me the exact coordinates as follows: On the map, right click on the building of the immigration office. Click on “Center map here” At the top right of the screen, click on “Link” Copy the text from the field “Paste link in email or IM” Paste that text into your reply to this post. Thank you very much. -- Maestro The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place. — George Bernard Shaw

InterestedObserver Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 You mention 800,00 baht and pension letter from embassy, so I assume we are talking about a retirement extension. Why then the need for the house book and ID card of your lady? Did immigration give a reason for wanting them?
ubonjoe Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 It is not unusual for immigration to ask for them if you make them aware thay you are married. It could be for proof of address. But most likely it is used as tacit approval by the wife for his getting the extension and using the income/savings to back up the extension which is considered joint assets according to Thai law.
InterestedObserver Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I realize that we are dealing with immigration here. That said, the OP was not applying for a marriage extension and immigration frowns upon joint accounts for retirement extensions. So why would immigration be concerned about marital assets?
ubonjoe Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I don't think it is so much a concern about the assets. It is just to give approval. It is a CYA for immigration. If have had to give a singed copy of my passport for lots of things that my wife has done just to show approval from me.
InterestedObserver Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 YESIt is just to give approval OF MY ADDRESS -- And of course immigration does not know where you live from your 90 day address reports. You probably make your address reports to the same immigration office, even the next desk over. Amazing Thailand!

Amazing Thailand! usually i live every 3 month flight to home country to visit the family so no 90 day report
InterestedObserver Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I see, makes sense, you keep 800,000 baht in Thailand at basically 0% interest for a retirement extension of stay and then fly to your home country every 90 days. Amazing Thailand!
bellachg Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Joint account is OK as long as you are legally married
ubonjoe Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Joint accounts are acepted by very few immigration offices. For both marriage and retirement extensions since the new rules came out last November. Even Bangkok immigration has refused extensions because they had a joint account
