Hi

I was wondering which is the best health clinic to go to here in CM?

I have been to Ram before, and found it ridiculously expensive, and was not all too impressed with the service I received for the hefty price tag at the end.

I want to go someplace where the doctor has a good grasp of english and is not as busy like a hospital, so I can get a good check up.

Any replies from people who have experienced a good clinic would be much appreciated :)

Every doctor I've used at Sripat (over a dozen in six years) was fluent in medical English. Some are the best doctors in town.

Thanks PB, I have always found your recommendations reliable and, after having experienced a couple of serious medical mistakes at Loi Kroh Clinic and a couple of doctors at CM Ram that sent me running for Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok, I am always open to suggestions.

Medical mistakes and incompetence, even in my own so-called civilized country, is an absolute disgrace and tends to make one believe that choosing a doctor is the equivalent of choosing which tree to stand under during a severe lightning storm.. :)

Would you please give a bit more info about Sripat and decent directions?

Thanks, brother...

You clearly hold dear to your hearth the common myth that the practicing of the medicinal arts is some sort of science.

Sripat, or Maharaj, or Suan Dok...

OK, this is a part of the huge CMU teaching hospital complex.

I wish I was good at Google Map, just now. I'm not.

I'm looking at my patient card; only English is "Special Medical Service Center", and the address (which I won't bother with, as it won't help).

Best way to describe this hospital is that it is one of several large tall buildings, in a rather large area, just opposite Wat Suan Dok.

You're on the West side of moat, on the outside, headed north. In the dead middle of the moat, a main intersection. Turn left. Only about 100 mt. or so (headed west), just past the Nursing College, there is a rather tall white building, 15 or so stories. Park where ever you can (tough) and go to the 13th floor. This is the "Special Clinic" situated in this rather large hospital building, which is only one of several other very large hospital buildings in this large area.

On the 13th floor, when you get out of the elevator, go to the appointment secretary just by the elevator. If you are a new patient (never been to the hospital before), they will log you in, and send you back down to the ground floor to get a patient card. Back up, with your new patient card, you can make an appointment with a doctor for family practice, cardiologist, dermatologist, whatever.

I've been going there 3 years now, very happy with the doctors and service and prices.

Hope this helps.

Okay, I will have to assume that English is not your first language as my excuse for having no idea what you are saying..

Eek provided some excellent references and I have been on the 13th floor of Suan Dok (just didn't recognize the name Sripak) and it is a place where you can find doctors who are very knowledgable and actually teach at the University of Medicine here in CM. Reasonably priced, go in the front door and directly to the far right corner, past the elevators, to the international service office, get your ID card and make an appointment.

Give yourself some time tho.. I made an appointment for 9am two days later, showed up on the 13th floor at 0830 and was assigned number 23 in line to see the doctor. I got in to see him well after lunch break and was given roughly 10 minutes to sputter my symptoms and receive a physical exam by an obviously hurried doc, without gloves, and no wash-up facilities visible in the tiny exam room. Giving credit where credit is due however, his diagnosis was correct and a simple ointment cured my flaming gay-ness. :D

In my attempt to balance ancient wisdom with (my least favorite) modern pharmaceutical medicine, for a newbie here with no obvious deadly trauma, I would recommend the following in order:

Munglala Trad Medical Clinic (Chinese Medicine)

21 Rajchamanka Rd - 053-208-432, 053-278-494

For Chiropractic issues

Shewe Wana Wellness Center - Dr Ken Leeper, D.C - 053-240-020

The best! I was miserable for 2 months and he put me right in one session!

General Practice - CM Ram

Dr Tosaporn Wittayakhom

Brilliant young diagnostician, excellent English

Dermatology

Dr Vachiraporn at CM Ram

Dr. Chiewpanich - the senior dermatologist

Best "bone doctor" in CM - Ajarn Sudhee

His clinic:

Dr Sudhee Sudasna

38/4 Chiang Mai - Super Hiway S. of Esso (opposite Wat Ched Yot)

Mon-Fri: 1800 - 1930 hrs

Sat: Closed.

Sun: 0930 - 1130 hrs

Phone: 053-214-139

081-764-1400

Vision Center - 18/2 Rad Withi Rd

For more serious stuff, such as anything requiring surgical intervention, save your money in advance folks and get down to Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok before letting these 'rusty machete' docs in CM cut you open...! :D

If that happened, Dusty would just spark up his personal UH-1D which he keeps in the backyard of his palatial estate, and in a low hover, either 1) open up with the skid mounted GE Gats, or 2) shower the perps with rose petals.

Depends on how "itchy" he's feeling that day.... :)

I think I know the one... all the signs are in Thai? that put me off a little if it's the same one - I wondered in there and got hopelessly lost - but maybe I should try again

You may get lost in you wander onto the main complex. It is at the first narrow driveway, headed toward Doi Suthep from the moat. In the white 15 story building facing the city. Study the photo in post 1 provided by the helpful Blinkered Bill.
