I will be purchasing a car in the next couple of weeks. I'm just curious what is required for a foreigner to hold title and can title be held by more than one person? I don't know if it matters, but I have a Non-Immigrant O-A Retirement Visa and a Thai Driver's License.

Thanks in advance.

Just bumping this topic up since nobody responded before. I've purchased a used car from a private party and will be taking possession of the car next week. Does any one know what documents are required to transfer title and can the title be transferred to more than one person?

Thanks again.

Several existing threads on this already.

You need certificate of residence, usually issued by immigration, and passport.

I think the new owner and the previous owner may need to go to the Land Transport office of you're choice to make the transfer. They need the Blue Book (auto) and you will need a residence certificate from Immigration and you're passport and no doubt the usual copies of things.

For sure the previous owner needs to sign the Book in the appropriate place to relinquish ownership and the new owner needs to be documented in the Book by the agent at the Land Transport office.

No Title. You will get a blue book and your name will be added as present owner. Only one person can own.

Just to set the record straight, more than one person can own an automobile. I just registered my car in my name and another party's name. Both our names appear in the Blue Book.

Do not forget if you get this from Immigration it takes about 3 weeks... If your going to get a car tent/dealer to do everything and the car is NOT new then you will need 2 certificate of residence... Bangkok Land Transport office DO NOT accept copies

If your buying a car in the same Land Transport office as you live then you can get a certificate of residence while you wait from the Town Hall...

It is all simple if you know.. like you maybe buying a car from next door but the car may have a different Land Transport office, In my Village there at 70 cars/truck as most of use have 2, I am one of only 5 out of the 70 with the local Land Transport office plates., as I always do it all myself so have to have new local number plates..

NO Problem, your Non-O retirement Visa , a Thai Driver's License, Insurance AND CASH(the key here) your car will be in your name.(you will be the title holder) I have heard a few tales over my longer stay in Thailand of some dealers trying to give the farang a song and dance to put the title in a Thai wife name because it was easy paper work for them, this also actually happen to me in 1996 when I bought my first car in Thailand, I had a few choice words(polite) for the Saleman and was on my way to the door with cash in hand, when call to by another saleman, that had over heard the conservation, my guess is he and the owner or the dealership was the only two that knew, they could sell to me(title my name) for cash :):D:D
