DanielleXPT
Hello I am going on a visa run to Mae Sot from Kanchanaburi. I have not decided if I will drive a motorbike (if so, is this safe) or if I will take a bus. If I take a bus does anyone know how to do this, I have been searching on the internet and cannot find anything without going to Bangkok and I do not want to do that. I did read that I can go to Suphanaburi and then leave from there, however I cannot confirm this and cannot find anything else about it. Hope you can help Thanks http://www.transport.co.th/ I found this site that I think I can find out bus routes, however it is all in Thai Edited May 26, 2009 by DanielleXPT

DanielleXPT
I got those directions too, on google maps, and if I drive it will be ok, I have read that the roads are pretty steep and a motorbike is not always a good idea, I am also worried about the rain. So this is why I would also like to figure out a bus route
apetley
Personally I would not make the trip on a small m/cycle, it would take way too long imo. The road to Tak is ok but over the mountain to Mae Sot will give a small engine a hard time. You can take a bus from Kan to Suphanburi then change for the trip to Nakhon Sawan where you have to change for the bus to Tak where you get on a mini bus to the border. It's not a relaxing trip. Less changes and I guess quicker if you get a direct Bkk-Tak bus. I was told a couple of years ago that the Thai side of the border closes for farangs at 4.30 pm but do not know if this is still the case.
ubonjoe
The closest would be Mae Sot, from Kanchanaburi, you can get a bus to Supanburi, then a bus to Tak. Mae Sot is roughly 80 Kilometers of the main Highway and there are regular mini buses running to and from Tak. This post by lioness may help. Mario2008
Not sure about from Kanchanaburi, I always went from BKK and it takes about 8 hours. But the busroute would be BKK, Nakhon Sawan, Tak. Form Kanchanaburi you must be able to get a bus to Nakhon Sawan or Tak. From either of the 2 you will be able to get a bus to Mae Sod. Note that from Tak there is also a mini bus service to Mae Sod, going every 15 minutes from 6 AM till 6 PM.
