Eight Injured as Pickup Truck Overturns on Slippery Road in Surat Thani
Picture from responders. Eight migrant workers were injured, three of them seriously, after a pickup truck skidded off the road and overturned in Surat Thani’s Phanom District on the night of 24 February. The crash occurred at a sharp bend in Phang Kan Curve, Moo 1, Phang Kan Subdistrict, during heavy rain, which is believed to have made the road slippery. Emergency services from the Takun-Phanom Rescue Centre, local police, and ambulances from Ban Takun and Phanom hospitals were dispatched to the scene at around 21:00. Rescuers found a Toyota pickup truck overturned in a roadside ditch, with all eight injured victims, identified as male Myanmar migrant workers, scattered around the crash site. Six of the injured were transported to Phanom Hospital, while two were taken to Ban Takun Hospital. Of these, three were reported to be in critical condition and later transferred to Surat Thani Hospital for further treatment. Two others remained under medical care at Ban Takun Hospital, while the remaining three were discharged after receiving treatment for minor injuries. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver, also a Myanmar national, was returning with his co-workers to their accommodation when the crash occurred. Witnesses reported that the truck was travelling at high speed when the driver lost control on the wet and slippery road, failing to negotiate a bend before crashing into the ditch. Local authorities are continuing their investigation to determine whether any further action needs to be taken regarding the driver’s responsibility in the crash. -- 2025-02-26 -
