Single entry Tourist Visa - Yangon Myanmar 8.April 2009.

I wanted to shorten my stay in Myanmar, which would make my stay in Thailand longer than 30 days.

Because of this I went to the Thai embassy in Yangon to ask about how to get a Tourist Visa.

They were very helpful. I arrived at 10:30, where told to deliver application before 11:00, and I would get the visa the next day between 13:00 to 15:00.

I did not bring any copies of airtickets, and by chance I had 3 very small photos with me (smaller than driver license photos).

I borrowed a pen, wrote the application in my lap, just filling it in "fast and furious". The friendly Indian looking guard, helped me separating the 3.rd photo (only need 2). I then went in to the offices, and handed in the application, got a ticket for the passport, which told me to pick up between 13-15 next day.

Arrived at 14:00 the next day, picked up the visa within 2 minutes. The visa was free (until june 2009).

Both days there where sitting about 50 burmese outside the embassy, what they where waiting for I dont know. I (farang) did not have to stand in any lines, and I did not talk to anybody, except for the friendly guards in the entrance.

What of course makes Yangon NOT the place to use when you apply for a thai visa, is that you have to apply for a Myanmar visa to get in to the country, and that is a little more work than getting a thai visa.

Welcome to ThaiVisa, and thank you for your report about getting the tourist visa in Yangon. How complicated was it to get the visa for Myanmar, and how much did it cost?

Ok!

It was not very complicated, but since I don't stay in Bangkok the 2 days processing forced me to make 2 trips to Bangkok.

Short description:

* Myanmar embassy = Surasak skytrain station, look Pan Rd. left on this map: htp://www.bts.co.th/th/stationMap.asp?s=S5_Update (walking distance)

* No more express (same day) visa, but not the 40 visa/day restriction that has been reported before is also gone.

I arrived at 10:00 AM, 1 hour after opening, no waiting, filled in forms, delivered, and exit within 35 minutes. (Open 09-12 and 13-15).

(2x "fill in" forms (A4+A5), passport, copy passport, 2 pictures and 810 baht fee). Do not write a complicated occupation, (write journalist and you will never get a visa). I tried to be honest, and wrote a complicated occupation, and then they gave me an extra form where I had to write down all my occupations for the last 10 years (then I came to my senses and simplified my answer).

* pick up after 2 days between 13-15. Arrived at 12:30, they opened at 12:50, and I got my visa at 13:15. If I had arrived at 13:15, I would have got my visa at 13:20 because everybody arrived early.

* 28 days visa, 1 month validity, so don't apply to early.

* Price as mentioned above 810 baht.
