bannork
Reading the story of the woman trashing her car the other day I noticed the car was referred to as a lemon. Why should a lemon signify something of poor quality, why not a pineapple,or even a water melon? An Australian professor told me it's because you feel sour after the experience of buying a 'lemon' but I remember as a boy standing on the football field and being bellowed at by the P.E. teacher,' Don't just stand there like a lemon, move the ball!' I don't recall feeling sour at the time, more like frozen to death on the N.Yorks tundra. bannork Edited February 9, 2005 by bannork

Gazza
Lemon?? I thought people were calling me a 'Lemming'. Maybe I'm as deaf as a door nail, I dunno. It was enough to make me 'sick as a parrot' being called a lemming.

bannork
I recall the song on Led Zeppelin 1 where Robert Plant sings,"(she) squeezed my lemon till the juice ran down my leg', it's an old blues song, Ledbelly? Whatever , it goes to show that at one time the lemon was an object desired, to be protected and cherished, at least by the male species. So, what went wrong? bannork
igotworms
We can look back to around 1996 to the great ping-pong ball shortage of Patpong. Lemons were used as a substitute and their tarnished image never fully recovered.

McAttack
Ahh. The plight of the Lemon... To be hung on a tree...segregated from other fruit...carted at the back of the truck...sold into servitude at market....and then the life squeezed out of it... cruel, cruel world.....when will it end?
