I have a fleet of dogs who i inject with 1 ml of vermax every couple of weeks.

Its getting a bit of a challenge every week as the dogs obviously can't stand it. I have a puppy Bullmastiff who is only going to get alot bigger and im concerned the fortnightly jab may eventually p1ss her off who knows?

My question to any other dog owners out there is do any of you know of any medication for Ticks, fleas, worms and mange that can be taken Orally?

Has anybody here ever injected vermax etc into their dogs food??

Any help or steers are most welcome.

Thanks.

Never heard of Vermax.

I use Frontline for ticks, and Heartguard for worms. Treat them monthly.

Available in all decent pet shops and pet supply shops, and vets.

Hi Lukey1979,

I agree with Mobi on this one. Frontline and Heartguard are very effective for ticks and fleas. I previously thought that they only "prevented" future occurences but they actually cause ticks that are already attached to slowly back out and die on their own. They both are easy to administer (no injections) and can be bought over the counter.

As for the skin problems (mange), I have been very successful with a medicated bath that I get from the doctor at the Thonglor branch of Thonglor Pet Hospital. If you go there once, they will administer a injection of something that helps a lot and then they issue out a bottle of this cloudy-white solution that you apply to your dog at home. You simply mix it with water (wearing gloves) and apply it to your dog once a week, not rinsing it off. Let the dog air dry. It has a strong alchohol-type smell, but it does work very well. My dog had started to get signs of the mange as a pup and he was loosing his hair. This treatment knocked it out like clockwork. You may want to ask around about this clear bathing solution I was talking about.

I am going back to the vet this week, so if you are really interested in finding out how to get a hold of the stuff... just message me and I can ask them for you.

Hope it helps,

ivermectin...........there's a thread about it already, including dosage etc... u can probably pm mangotogo as he is a vet; plus most of us have experience with ivomac both injected and oral.

the injection shouldnt really hurt all that much as usually its given sub cutaneous so doing it properly shouldnt cause more then a slight discomfort followed by a nice doggy cookie...

as for other deworming-- most people do a bi yearly worming unless your dog is working with livestock and u may do more often (or when ever u give your livestock their worming stuff)...

and the dosage for ivermectin is per kilo of weight and underdosage is ineffective and causes parasites to develop immunity faster.

israel

heartguard IS ivermectin btw.
