Having just done a border run with 5 Star Visa in Pattaya - I'd like to share a few notes.

Excellent start with good breakfast at the Sportsmans. Everything taken care of at the Cambodian border. Good/very good packed lunch. Friendly driver - but drove like a mad man. Drove full speed round sharp bends and overtook everthing in sight.

This guy drives everyday and it will surley end in tears unless he is reighned in :)

His brother must be the driver for 1st Class Visa Runs in Pattaya too then. Ok going but high speed all the way back, straight through red lights, inside lane passing after the flashing lights and horn blaring didn't work, the lot. Absolute Nutter!!!

Thats the reason why I prefer whenever and wherever it is possible (without to much problem) to drive myself.

Most of these companies are on tight schedules and drive like crazy.

Instead of trying to do it all in one day why not go under your own steam and take 2 days.

I always used to.

Good idea - saves the stress and sleepless nights 2 weeks before :)

When I need to do a Border Run I always take the Provincial Bus.. Not Visa Run Service buses.... There and back in one Day.. no Fuss.. no Muss... No speeding beyond the Thai Norm... and half the cost of the Visa Run companies, all in, including my wife tagging along.... If I don't include her Purse shopping at the Border Market.

Besides.. why settle for a "Box Lunch" of their choosing, when I can go to a restaurant and have a hot meal of my own choice.

A bus from Pattaya is a little more difficult than from Bangkok. From Bangkok you can also get acasino bus.

Why not fly out an back to KL. If you are doing 15 days runs it works out cheaper if you purchase your tickets in advance because you get 30 days instead of 15. See airasia.com.

I regularly use the Five Star visa service and have to admit that on some occasions the driving can be 'competitive'. When this happens I highlight the fact on the questionnaire that they distribute on the return journey. (In red ink & include my mobile tel# for further discussion).

There are parts of the journey, where a head-on collision is possible. For this reason, I always finish my breakfast first then go and sit in the rear seats of the bus, whilst the nicotine crew are getting their fix. This probably increases my survival by 33% (ensure seat belt is also fastened).

The general concensous seems to be that doing a border run with 5 Star visa - and others - is playing Russian roulette.

Not so long ago an American guy who was so pissed off with the driver - he was sitting in the front - pulled out a can of CS gas and sprayed the driver when the bus stopped back at the Sportsman.

I told the manager that the driver was a nutter and he just shrugged his shoulders. I for one will vote with my feet and never use this 'service' again.
