Diesel- Petrol

Featured Replies

nice

thanks

I will be returning to Thailand this year after several years visiting, on a retirement visa. So will be needing to buy a vehicle and intend to pay up to 500,000 Bht.

The big question is, should i get Petrol or Diesel and what is the benifit.

Here in OZ we dont see many diesel powered cars. Mine is a Mitsubishi Pajero,Automatic, powered by Gas/Petrol.

The Gas gives me a little less OOMP! but half the price to run..........LPG $A49.8 per litre ......Petrol $A1.10 average.

I will appreciate any advice.

Thanks.......Dave.

You won't find any pickups or most SUV's that run on anything other than diesel. It is the reverse for cars.

Not many locally assembled cars run on diesel. Imported cars will cost a lot more.

Diesel is cheaper than petrol/gasoline unless you buy E85. You can also buy B5 diesel that is cheaper than regular diesel.

Pickups are the cheapest to buy because the tax rate is lower.

I have a Chevrolet turbo diesel pickup and it runs just fine.

Diesel is cheaper than gasoline.

Both diesel and gasoline vehicles can be converted to LPG or NGV gas in Thailand.

I would recommend you add a few 100,000 to your 500,000 and buy a new car, you never really know what you are getting with second hand in Thailand. For re-sale value Toyota or Honda is best.

500K. Should be thinking of something new if you plan on keeping it a long time.
