Fortuner Reversing Alert

Featured Replies

Hi

Just got my new Fortuner. When I put it in reverse it makes a beeping noise to very kindly tell me it is in reverse even though I have just moved the gearshift into the bit that has R quite clearly on it. Then the reversing sensor kicks in and it starts beeping which I want but does get a bit annoying when it mixes with the first one. Anyone know how to stop the standard reverse beep. I did think of trying to explain to the dealer but I expect I will get one of those looks from them. Would be much easier to do it myself.

Thanks

Hi

Going from memory bearing in mind I am 6,000 miles from my Fortuner at the moment, I believe there is a button just in front of the shift and next to rear cool button that allows you to disengage the rear bleeper.

TBWG :)

Reversing sensor is not a problem. That only comes on when it gets in range.

Its a second bleeper that comes on every time you put the gearshift into reverse that is the problem. It must be some sort of Nanny state safety thing to tell you the car is in reverse but its bloody annoying.

Anyone know how to stop the standard reverse beep.

Ear plugs? Or just turn the music up full volume. This is how you disengage all safety aspects that annoy in any car. You also then raise the risk level in driving - not a good idea.

Find the beeper, pull the wire, problem solved.

I hate this nanny too. There is already a gear indicator on dash, and I can read it :) And the gear level is visible too, not like in US cars with steering wheel level.

Cut the wire or use a screwdriver or cutter to damage the thing

It's funny this is the one thing I found really annoying when I got my Fortuner new. Now, I don't even hear it anymore. If you had asked me "does your Fortuner make a noise when you reverse?" I'd have said no. It does though.

It's a switchable feature, but requires the Toyota BCM and the approproate software - ask your dealer to disable the feature on your next visit, it's a 5 minute excercise.

I had this ridiculous feature disabled on all my previous Toyota's..

Just show's you what a plank I am I just had to go out to my Fortrner and see if it did it, and yes it dose just show's you after a year it didn't bother me, I dont use the beeper's as have a camera, and it still bleep's. It's going to anoy me now. Thank's a bunch.
