About 3 weeks ago, my passport was stolen. I am teaching English in Thailand until October. I had a Non immigrant multiple entry B visa in my previous passport. I received my new passport last week, went to immigration they were able to give me a stamp with non immigrant B visa, but not a multiple entry. They kind of gave me the run around and finally told me to try Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I found my way there for them to tell me, there's no way they can reissue me a multiple entry visa, I would have to leave the Kingdom in order to get that. I have copies of my original visa. It seems that there should be a way to transfer the information from the old one to the new passport. I had a Thai citizen call the government customer service hot line. They said I should be able to take care of it at immigration. Does anyone know for certainty the policy for this? It seems the Thai officials I talked to all said something different, typical Thai bureaucracy.

There is no way to get it done in Thailand.

It might be possible at the original issuing consulate or embassy.

All you can do now is to go out and get a new one. If you have a work permit valid for a least 8 or 9 months you get one in KL.

If you have a work permit you should be able to get an extension of stay.

If you don't have a work permit you are working illegaly.

When you get a new passport, immigration only transfers your permission to stay. Not your visa, although they will put in details about that in your new passport.

As said above, you will have to get a new visa from abroad.

Well, I'm not about to argue too much with the experts here, but I had a passport stolen in the mid-late 90's, had a Non "O" and at least one renewal, as I recall. I got a new passport from the US Embassy and went hat in hand to Suan Plu, friend of a friend was a deputy commander.

They dug trough boxes of documents and found copies of my old TM card, visa, etc. They made a notation in my passport and I have continued to renew it year after year .. without leaving the country or visiting a Thai consulate.

I currently hold a subsequent passport, issued in 2004. When I got it from the embassy, they gave me a letter asking Thai immigration to transfer my visa, notation .. whatever you choose to call it.

So maybe I'm confused as what is a 'visa' and what is a 'transfer'.

You are just getting a new "Extension of Stay" and not "renewing" a visa.

You have an extension of stay not a visa. Immigration will trasfer that but not a visa.

Your visa expired years ago.

The reason I posted this was in hopes that it might be of benefit to the OP .. it looks to be a similar situation. Whether my "renewal" should be called an "extension" seem a bit pedantic.

You don't renew or extend visas at immigration, You extend permit to stays.

I feel terribly sorry for the guy who might have to return to his homeland to get a new visa and therefore attach a former thread.

Question: Has this changed all together or is it valid only for expired and full passports?

The title is somewhat misleading, as it is the permission to stay you transfer, not the visa. If one still has a valid multiple entry visa in once passport, you would have to use your old passport togehter with the new passport to gain re-entry into Thailand on the valid visa.

If you lose your old passport, you no longer have a valid visa and you will need to get a new one to regain entry into the country.
