While I was on the Udon ring road, I was sitting alongside a nice looking Vigo station wagon. Only after the fact did I realize that (as far as I know) this is not a production model but probably a conversion. I managed a couple of snapshots of the escaping beast but it looked so much longer and leaner than the Fortuner, it got me wondering where they come from. This wasn't a fiberglass shell planted on the tray but a fully modified back end; note the sideways opening tailgate. The rear side windows looked like they could have come from a Fortuner as they had the Toyota safety glass logo's on them.

There's probably a few auto conversion shops in Bangkok and suburbs so if anyone has any clues and links, it would be appreciated.

Many thanks!

Seen similar on many other makes of trucks too. Its just a carryboy type back-box conversion but it also includes a revised tailgate arrangement.

Not rocket science.

Sorry Dave, I was parked alongside it at a red light and this is NOT a Carryboy bolt on; I know what that is having rented several. I was close enough the read the Toyota engraving on the rear side-windows; Carryboy's don't use any kind of tempered glass. That tailgate glass and rear side-windows look like they are from a Fortuner. No, this was a SEAMLESS bodywork job with one-piece roof and sides, like a stretched Vigo crew-cab or a proper station wagon.

It's not a Carryboy conversion as it is not a fibre glass bolt-on but a total reworking of the rear end/bed using metal work and costs a small fortune.

Wanted similar or my Triton until I found out the price.

I did but another word after 'carryboy' in previous sentence BTW.

Sorry I used that trade name but it was the best way to describe what I have seen. A more rubust coversion including a new rear door.

I second Bpraim............... Thairung

Seen some SMW too.

Looks like rear side windows and C pillar from Fortuner, which is not expensive to purchase.

Wouldnt like to wallet park it and then open rear hatch/swing. Thats 7 meters :)

Probably getting the arse-end of a front-end-totalled Fortuner and chop it to fit the back of the Vigo would be cheaper? This one looked very good but agree that the side-opening tailgate could be a bit unmanageable.

I did check the Thairung website but they didn't have any Toyota's listed.

I found this one but the back-end is boxier, defo not a Fortuner bit grafted on.

Bring a picture to the policestation or DMV and run the reg number. If its registered as a Toyota highlux, the change of body is registered on one of the last pages in the book with the builders name.
