Well guys I am here (in Thailand in case there is any confusion )

it’s not sunk in yet, by that I mean I am still a bit hyper (the rat race thing)

I am renting a beautiful place (10 rai -1 rai land 9 rai water ) its quite secluded and very chilled out, I think in about two months I will not be able to get up out of the hammock I will be that thai-efied. :)

My next big challenge is the visa run, but I will cross that (friendship) bridge (literally) when I get to it. :D

If anybody can talk me through the , getting a bus from Nong Khai to Lao and back I would be very grateful (or post a link please) :D

Thanks for your help but I live in Nong Khai I don't need a hotel (it felt good to say "I live in Nong Khai".

I have been to Lao by various forms of transport and come back on the bus (which seemed quite easy, it was the route to Lao by bus I was asking for.

Are you wanting to get a visa or just a border run to get another 60 or 90 days from a visa.

To get a bus that will take you all the way into Vientiane requires a Lao visa before you get on the bus.

Most people just go to the bridge and cross to the Lao side using the shuttle bus get the visa on arrival and then a taxi to Vientiane.

The hotel suggested is in Vientiane.

Hi Ubonjoe,

looking at my first post I didn't make it clear, sorry, its a 12 month visa and my first border run, I was looking at a quick turn around.

Please could you explain the visa on arrival as that seems to be what i am asking for.

Thanks

Steve :)

You need 2 photos, 1500 baht, and a completed application for the visa on arrival.

You can go to the the bridge clear immigration and take the shuttle bus across the bridge. You apply for the visa on arrival and enter Laos. Do a little duty free shopping if you want and reverse the trip returning to Thailand.

Hi Joe,

Can you tell me where I get the application form from prior to getting the shuttle, do they have them on the bus?? or can I grab a handful from somewhere and pre-complete them.

I have been to Lao twice before, once from the pantawee hotel (about four years ago) so didn't see the proccess the second time I went with my g/f and her dad (who came from Lao 30 yrs ago) so we went to the border (thai side) and one of the touts did the application form, had to queue up at the window then a tuk tuk to his old home, on the way back we got the bus from the Lao bus station and just sailed through, so basically the pieces of the jigsaw I am missing is the getting the shuttle through to the Lao side.

Hope this helps

I don't know of anywhere to get them but on the Lao side of the bridge where you apply. They hand them out one at a time at the window there. It does not take long to fill out. Just some basic questions. One is for where you will be staying in Laos, Just put a any hotel name there.

They now do the Lao entry stamps when they do the visa so once you get your passport back you can pass up the arrival booths.

As soon as you go thrugh Thai immigration you will see a line or a group of people gathering for the shuttle bus. The same thing after you return through Lao immigration coming back.
