SURAT THANI : State efforts to rid Kaeng Krung National Park of encroachers are being held up as a model for adoption at other parks.

The forest now appears to be turning a corner after years of being plagued by serious forest encroachment.

Over 8,000 rai has been taken over by investors in what is the most serious case of forest encroachment found in the southern region.

The Department of National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation recently destroyed rubber trees planted on the investors' behalf, covering 454 rai.

It also pulled down three shelters and set up a committee to take legal action against those responsible. The occupied areas will be reforested.
