June 28, 200917 yr I use a garmin street something or other and got a link to a V9 map about thee weeks ago if any body is interested in it let me know if you want the file it works for me and the advantage over the V8 is the extra detail in the counrtyside i have not tried it in Bangkok as yet but certainly in Petch area there is a lot more detail and it still fits on the memory card that fits into the side of the Garmin unit

July 3, 200917 yr I have Garmin SE Asia ver 3.0, how does Thailand ver 9 differ? I asked Garmin to check to see if the Kanchanaphisek bridge was on their latest map. Here is their answer; "Thank you for contacting Garmin International. If you have a 2008 or 2009 version, those would be up to date. The bridge may not be on there because it is a new location. Sometimes it may take a few years to get that information onto maps". Obviously I am not impressed that it takes SEVERAL years to add a major item such as a bridge and the highways connecting to it.
July 3, 200917 yr Author I have Garmin SE Asia ver 3.0, how does Thailand ver 9 differ? this map is specific to Thailand no other copuntry details are given and over V8 there is a lot more detail and some of the turn offs are now corrected like turning from #1 road to the ring road going South it tells you to turn on to the slip frontage road instead for tleaving it and telling you to turn right (I mean left no wonder I need SatNav) off the #1 as you go past the turning Edited July 3, 200917 yr by mgc
July 3, 200917 yr OK, thanks for that. I suppose that SE Asia V 3.0 is using Thailand V 8.0 data then. I guess what I could do is get Thailand V 9.0 and use that locally and then when I go to Malaysia pop the SE Asia card in for that trip.

For what it's worth, both Garmin City Navigator SE Asia NT v4.00 and ESRI Thailand Street Map v9.0 NT have the Kanchanaphisek bridge (N13 38.005, E100 32.337), Rotweiler All Thailand v5.2 does not. A major omission on Rotweiler's part. Garmin City Navigator SE Asia has the best rural road detail, if your into dirt roads and 4-wheel drive/motorcycles. Rotweiler All Thailand will work with MapSource on your computer, the ESRI and Garmin Thailand maps don't seem to want to work with MapSource. All three maps provide enough POI to keep you properly sheltered, fed, entertained, and lubricated.

The Garmin SE Asia NT map uses TeleAtlas (MapPointAsia) maps not ESRI (so it isn't v.8). I concur that the rural road data is better on TeleAtlas than ESRI v.9, having recently compared the two on my NUVI. However, on my 2008 SE Asia NT map (don't have the version number to hand) I could find no bridge. Will double-check but the Nuvi 250 is clumsy when it comes to simulating routes.
July 5, 200917 yr Does anyone have the map ID number? If you mean the TeleAtlas map it is as follows. On the box: CN Southeastern Asia NT 2008, bar code 010-11114-00 From Nuvi: City Navigator Southeastern Asia v2.0 NT, CN_SEA_NT_TA200709 Now that I have seen this, it looks like the map sold in the US as 2008 is a fairly early 2007 map. The rural detail is quite good, but the bridge mentioned in the thread is definitely not present. I don't know when versions 3 and 4 mentioned in the thread were released. July 5, 200917 yr Does anyone have the map ID number? S.e.a. version 2 =335 S.e.a. version 3 =363 There is no version 4 yet.
July 5, 200917 yr CN Southeastern Asia NT 2008, bar code 010-11114-00 is useing ESRI V8.1 mapset. This seems implausible to me. The one I have with that bar code has a sticker saying TeleAtlas on the box and having compared this map with ESRI v.9 they are very different, with more rural detail on the SE Asia map. In the map version displayed on my NUVI and mentioned above I would assume that 'TA' in TA200709 means TeleAtlas. Are you suggesting that TeleAtlas used the ESRI mapset? Then ESRI got the boot from Garmin and TeleAtlas, Then we all seen the price tumble, 11000m 7000, now just 4500.

July 6, 200917 yr Garmin City Navigator SE Asia NT v4.00 is marked as TA200810, is definitely not a ESRI Thailand Street Map v9.0 NT map set. The connections between Garmin and the various mapping companies seem more complicated than I had realised. I see from the web that ESRI and TeleAtlas have co-operated on many projects, though I couldn't find any reference to the SE Asia map. I found a couple of posts that suggest that TeleAtlas' tie up with MapPointAsia started in November 2007 (what I thought was the source of my 2008 SE Asia map) and that ESRI v'8 was launched as a standalone map later that same month. This would suggest that any opportunity to use v.8 on the SE Asia map was either very narrow or non-existent. It would be nice to nail down definitely who made the various maps we're discussing. Posted: Sat Nov 03, 2007 1:40 pm Post subject: MappointAsia complete navigable digital map databaseThailand Tele Atlas in joint venture with MappointAsia Thailand source: Thomson Financial Tele Atlas NV said it entered into a joint venture with MappointAsia Thailand to set up a new subsidiary to be called Tele Atlas Thailand Co Ltd. The new business will operate independently, focusing on delivering a complete navigable digital map database of the country. Based in Bangkok and employing more than 100 database production and collection staff, the joint venture will be immediately operational. Tele Atlas also announced the deployment of its first mobile mapping van in Southeast Asia in downtown Singapore. The deployment of the new vehicle is the second vehicle in Tele Atlas' Asia Pacific fleet From ESRI Dear Mr.X, The map of Thailand v.8 will launch on November 15 (2007) which is call Thailand Street Map V.8 You would like to waiting or not? Please inform me. Best Regards, Piyamas W.

First of all Ta 200810 is an old teleatlas map that is named cn singapore and malaysia NT V.4 Second, South east asia map V4 doesn't excist yet.

I punch in the coordinates N13, 38.005; E100, 32.337 and up pops the Kanchanaphisek bridge, the entire bridge complete with access roads. Somebody is certainly confused, but it's not me because I have the downloaded map from Garmin, completed with bridge, and marked as v4.00 on my Nuvi 205 Map Info. Anything else I can do for you?
