I am about to renew or extend my retirement "visa" (not the right word - I know).

Just curious if there has been any recent changes or problems?

Last year it was sooooo easy and the office was very cooperative. Hoping for the same this year!

No changes apart from the fact that you have to apply at your local Immigration Office. Assuming that will be Phuket for you.

Hi Ramon,

I don't know if at your last application you had to show the funds of THB 800,000 for at least 3 month before application for visa extension already, or show proof of government pension sufficient to apply (total per year THB 800,000 - to be remitted to Thailand) if so its the same. Some documents the officer can request additionally re under the discretion of the officer, so don't be surprised if there is a paper you have to show this year you didn't have to show last year or opposite. You could call here first and check, also the Immigration has foreign volunteers to help, maybe its worse give them a call.

There is not such rule for remitting money into Thailand. The rule for income (it is not required to be a pension) is 65k per month as listed in a letter from your Embassy.

With 800 k baht in the bank the officer might ask prove about the money for your living. That can be money transfers into Thailand or ATM prove from your bankacct abroad. They are afraid you work here illegally even when you'r grand-dad...

Lucky you in Phuket. The Nongkhai Immigration has new rules this year.

Letter from the embassy must be notarized on Chaeng Wattana.

The original housebook plus copies plus tenant-statement plus copies.

I will ask them this week, (closed now...).

I had several times tenant-registration so why one more ? And the original house book ? I know farangs here with their landlady living in Europe so how to get this book ?

Chaeng Wattana is no problem but it costs travel expenses when you live up country.

Every Immigration Officer can make new rules. And you do nothing about it. Grin and bear it.....

No office should require MFA certification of Embassy letters - that was a non-starter from last year and quickly dropped. Believe that they only want reasonable proof of address at Nong Khai so (most) should be flexible if stated items are not available. Please let us know what you find out.

Sure. When it's not toooo busy tomorrow I will drop in for a few questions. I am due mid August for my ret extension. I will let ya know. Problem is, I can not go to other Offices since I live here.

The income-verification is not the biggest problem. Showing the housebook every year sure is !

I'm now on my 3rd retirement visa and never been asked for a house book. What is this? I presume it is supplied by your landlord but I've never been offered one. I've only ever been asked to draw a map to prove I know where it is!!

Must say I've never had a problem and maybe it is easier as they insist on a certified letter from the British Embassy regarding income. Mind you I've always used Sunbelt. Costs you, of course but they turn up and get the ticket, you turn up 2 or 3 hours later wait for maybe 15 - 20 minutes sit and smile and sign on the dotted lines - job done. Money well spent in my opinion .

Frezie, those consultants are not available upcountry. And with this new law you can only apply for an extension in the region you live in.

So I went to the Nongkhai Immigration office today and had a few questions.

About showing the housebook for a new ret visa. When you don’t have the housebook (the owner lives far away or abroad) you can also show

1. Copy of his/her Thai ID,

2. Copy of the housebook in which the lessor is stated as owner or buyer, but not as user or tenant,

3. A “Notification form for house master (etc) where alien had stayed”,

4. A list called “Name of aliens in residence” with my name and passport number,

and all those signed by the house master.

Fortunately I can also show a letter from the Landoffice in which is stated that I rent the house for 10 years and that I have paid the registration tax for that.

About the income statement from the Royal Netherlands Embassy. The Immigration in Nongkhai demands that this paper will be verified at Chaeng Wattana.

That is disappointing but since I have just a few weeks before the next application I will grin and bear it.

But I will certainly contact the Embassy about this (well, I did per email) because it is strange that a rule that has been cancelled by the Headoffice in Bangkok still is valid in Nongkhai.

So I let you know.

A Thai lawyer called the Imm Police Nongkhai and there it is: there have been fake embassy letters so they want those things verified.

Question. Do they verify the letter in English, or should it be translated into Thai first ??

I found a lawyer in BKK region to fix al that stuff for me. I hate to travel. Nothing better than Isan....
