Hi,

my girlfriend and I are planning to go backpacking across South-East-Azie and Australia.

We'll be starting our 1 year trip in Bangkok, Thailand. We will probably be staying in Thailand for about 3 months and then we travel on to Indonesia, Malaysia and/or Singapore.

Now our main concerns is; are we allowed to receive a Visa for Thailand, if we don't yet have a ticket proving we will leave Thailand?

To re-phrase the question: Do we need a planeticket proving when we will leave Thaliand to receive a Visa?

Hopefully someone can tell me, because I allready found out that this is going to be a problem when traveling to Indonesia.

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

Thijs & Natascha

You will be able to get a Visa to Thailand without an onward ticket. The Consulate in Amsterdam will be your best bet. A Tourist Visa will give you 60 days and can be extended for a further 30 days at Immigration.

If you want to enter Thailand and you have no return ticket or a ticket to a further destignation you need defenitely a visa for Thailand.

For 3 months a tourist visa should be alright (2 moths + 30 days extension).

For your further plan to travel the airlines are able to refuse transportation if you don't fullfill the (visa)requirements for the next country! For Malaysia and/or Singapure you should not have any problem. Indonesia: Honest, I dont know! For Australia you need an Electronic visa.

You do not need an ownward or return ticket to visit Thailand if you have any kind of a visa. Only if without a visa would/could airline question you. One-way travel is specifically allowed in IATA directive to airlines for visa travel to Thailand.
