Seems he's in a worse way then first though, cancer is also in his lungs.

Former Wales, Arsenal and Celtic striker John Hartson is in a critical condition after emergency surgery on his brain following a cancer diagnosis.

At the weekend, 34-year-old Hartson was told he had testicular cancer.

The disease spread to his brain and on Wednesday, doctors confirmed it was also present in his lungs.

The father-of-three had undergone surgery at Morriston Hospital in Swansea, after being transferred from the city's Singleton Hospital.

A hospital statement read: "He is currently being cared for by the critical care team at Morriston and is receiving round-the-clock care aiming to stabilise his condition.

Really really sad news.

I heard reports he's in hospital and, looks like he's not coming out. :)

Best wishes to John and all his family....

Latest is that John is in intensive care and his condition remains critical but stable.

His sister has requested that people pray for him. Although not a believer myself, I do think that those positive thoughts can be conveyed on a profound level. I certainly am thinking in those terms, whilst being moved by the sense of sadness and shock that I imagine we all feel.

Absolutely. No way a father of 34 should be facing what he is. It's so cruel, both on him and his family. Wishing him all the best and hope he puts up a fight, as i'm sure he will.

Seems he is on the mend!

JOHN HARTSON will not be at Celtic Park tonight when two of his former teams meet in their Champions League qualifier.

Nor will the former Wales star take up Arsenal's invitation to be a guest for the second leg next week.

Instead he will settle for a place in front of the TV as he slowly recuperates from the cancer which nearly claimed his life.

Hartson, 34, has just undergone emergency surgery after testicular cancer spread to his brain and his lungs.

And he reveals for the first time how a personal message of support from Arsene Wenger helped him pull through his darkest hours.

Hartson, who spent three weeks in intensive care at Swansea's Singleton Hospital, said: "I was sent a huge Get Well Soon card from all the staff at Arsenal, personally signed by Arsene.

"That meant such a lot to me. It was great to know that someone like him was thinking about me.

"It's that sort of thing that really makes the difference when you're in hospital and not feeling too great.
