I have a timing problem - I am leaving the country without having the time to process the working visa at the thai consulate.

I am wondering if i will encounter any problems if i enter thailand in phuket on a tourist stamp and then process the proper paperwork (working visa) after my arrival?

Thanks for any help - im getting a little stressed out about this...

No problem, as far as I can see. Enter with a tourist visa, get permission to stay for 60 days, if necessary extend by 30 days. Have your employer get the paperwork together for the work permit application, make the application, then with the receipt for the work permit application and the company’s paperwork get a single-entry non-B visa from a suitable Tai consulate in the area, return to Thailand and pick up the work permit when it is ready.

Thanks for your help. The paperwork has been done already (from the employer etc), but will not get to me in time to get the working visa ready at the consulate before i depart for thailand. I am a little worried that i will be entering and getting a tourist stamp when i enter thailand on a one way ticket.

is there any problem with me entering without any visas (can i get a stamp at the arrival airport in thailand)?

is there any problem with me entering as a tourist on a one way ticket? i was planning to have all the paperwork ready, so only got the one way ticket...

thanks again

For a consulate outside of Thailand to process an application for a Non Immigrant B visa, it requires a receipt from the Labour Office, stating that all documents have been handed in to them.

If you do not have this receipt (original as well) then you will not get a Non Imm B Visa.

That is correct for embassies/consulates in Asian countries, but in many European countries you only need a letter from the company.

You can be refused to board the plane if you don't have a visa or return ticket within 30 days.

oh boy :)

it sounds like the one-way ticket might be the real problem... Can i fix this by buying a cheap air asia ticket out of thailand just to show them when boarding the plane?

I am coming from north america originally - going through seoul...

Buy a ticket from Air Asia to a cheap destination in one of the countries bordering Thailand to show the airline when you board.

Only when you mean the permission for 30 days you can get here in Thailand when you don't have a visa is there a problem. Apply for a tourist visa and with that you won't have any problems. Tourist visas are free at the moment and won't take long to get.
