This subject most properly has been discusted many times but I can't find it To come to the topic

my wife teaches english ( not at school but private) So I help her out some times just talking to the students she does all the grammar and everthing else but some times when my wife is away I am by my self and talking to the students and pass on the work they have to do. Is talking to them classed as teaching? Or I am worried about nothing? As you know Thai people don't have a clue about the

regulations and laws conserning foreigners about work permits and so on. And every time I mention

to my family about certain laws for foreigners over here they tell me, don't worry nobody is going to know about it.

1. Are the students paying for the time you are spending with them (either to you or your wife)?

2. Is the 'conversation' in some way structured in such a way that it is a part of a lesson?

3. Is your talking to the students time-limited to a period of a time that they are paying for?

I have a friend whose partner teaches private lessons. She does all the work and is paid for a specific time. The family can't always make it back to pick up the kids on time (there is a friendship and this isn't a problem). He often plays ball with them or gets involved in some other activity with them. He makes no intentionto teach them, however, but he speaks English, so that's the medium of the activities. The kids are free to speak Thai if they so wish.

His partners intent is to teach and she is paid for it. His intention is to entertain them until the family arrives and he isn't paid.

I don't know how Thai law works exactly, but 'intent' usually plays a part in most legal situations. He also doesn't do if he is busy, doesn't feel like it etc. The children are old enough to occupy themselves until the parents arrive, so it's not really babysitting either.

My wife collects the money every month for her work. Yes I help her when she is not there.

Bloody hel_l. The way things are going its better to play safe and not talk to Thais at all !! After all, if you help your gf out with her English skills is that teaching ??
