EC resolves to hold Surat Thani by-election on Aug 30

The Election Commission voted Wednesday to hold the Surat Thani by-election on August 30, EC deputy secretary-general Pokkrong Sunthornsut said.

The by-election will be held on Surat Thani's Constituency 1 to fill a House seat left vacant by Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, who resigned after the EC decided to seek a Constitution Court ruling to disqualify him and 12 other Democrat MPs over share holding controversy.

Pokkrong said the candidacy registration for the by-election will be held on August 5 to 9 and the advance election on August 22 and 23.
