At 69 you are to young to realize that as you get older the body does not respond as well as it does when you are young. Someday you too will find that after a couple of times things just don't co-operate any more. So enjoy it well you can.

I'm 75 and speak from experience.

Wow...you are now my hero!

75 and still popping! I salute you. :)

Ever since the swine flu thing, everyone thinks they are clever to be on about how the pharmaceutical companies are evil and make too much money and control the government and how people are sheep and fall for the advertisements and propaganda. I am sure once these people (you) catch something, you will be running to the doctor and popping pills left and right and whining about how the government has not done enough to prepare/prevent this from happening to you. Most of the complaints people have about capitalism are just for show, their actions in real life speak for themselves.

You're quite optimistic that such dronish populations will 'catch on', aren't ya? Mindless consumption and continued manipulation of such a fashion will never go out of style as long as the same {warm and fuzzy} populations care to exist in an illusion.

I KNOW my time is limited. That is why I'm enjoying it while I can. Have fun while it's still available to you. None of us last forever. There is a huge difference between being alive and actually LIVING!

Oh and you forgot to proclaim how humble and self deprecating you are.

Well said.

Viagra - the active ingredient sildenafil citrate comes from one of about 2 places inthe world: China and India (mostly India)

World production 2008 was somewhere around 32 000kg's - 32 tons

1kg of sildenafil citrate costs between $10 - 15K in India.

Viarga tab's comes with 25mg or 50mg or 100mg of sildenafil citrate - or from 10 000 to 40 000 tab's per kilogram.

Sildenafil citrate is NOT a controlled substance - you can go to India and buy it over the counter per kg if you know where to go.

making the tab;s is no big deal either - a friednly off-set printer to do the packaging graphics (loads of them in Thailand), a tab mold (no shortage of tab mold manufacturers in China Town), foil and an induction heather to seal the foil to the blister packaging (easy to purchase in Thailand).

Now go do the math: based on Thai black market prices for a Viagra tab thats awful big profit - and Thailand has no shoratge of counterfeit Viagra manufacturers.

It is a fine line between pleasure and failure - okay at 69 (my favourite number) and undergoing decline by 75.

Rigid thought patterns can lead to delusion

Are all men having trouble with their sex life? What's with all the ads for Viagra and Cialis?

Maybe it's just the sports channels I watch on TV but there seems to be an over abundance of advertisements offering sex pills for men. I see ads for Cialis, Viagra, something called Extends and a few others I've never heard of before. Is there some problem with modern men? I thought that is what beautiful women were for... to keep men interested. The men's sex pills ads seem to have taken over from the ones about women's monthly problems. On top of that there seem to be ads for all sorts of pharmaceuticals to alleviate some imagined or real problem that people supposedly have.

Are the pharmacy companies taking over the world?

Well , I think you have a long way to go yet , a change of diet and life-style can enhance your performance considerably , at 76 I have achieved a BP of 108/70 with a resting pulse of 58bpm , my sexual interludes are missed 3 or 4 times a month due to certain circumstances beyond my control . I use a Chinese sublingual called Yunnan Baiyou twice a week , it opens the arturies and performs on the platelets , I take no other medication but do take vitamin 'B' on a daily basis , if you just abide by an old saying of "Hang in there partner "that is most likely what you will end up doing , hang there . Keeping in mind that sex is the best heart healthy treatment you can get , use it or lose it , I will admit I am not always the 'Rod of iron ' I was once on all occassions , but old age brings on a longer duration which is what keeps my lady singing in the morning .

Ever since Willie Nelson announced he has outlived his dick (his 'Little Willie"), and a 60-year old friend survived prostate cancer with impotence, I figured I'd better use it before I lose it. 67 today; still strong; still using it. Say happy birthday to my willie.

Aside from the pleasure these pills have given untold millions of men (either men who could not previously achieve an erection or from recreational users bound to maximize a night's pleasure) and the women who were able to enjoy their effects, the pills have had a very significant effect on the price of endangered animals, and through inference, is probably helping to save them.

One report I read stated that the black-market cost for a tiger carcass in China pre-viagra was about $50,000. A few years after viagra use was common, the price of a tiger had fallen to about $10,000.  THe main reason is that one of the most compelling reasons for the consumption of animal parts in Sino-based societies was for increased sexual performance.  And expcet for the placebo effect, consuming the wide variety of animal parts had essentially no impact on sexual performance.

So when the average Chinese man seeking a boost had a choice for a $10 tiger misture which did not work or a $1 viagra tablet which did work, it is not too hard to figure out which one came on top.

There are still many perceived uses for the various animal products in Sino-based cultures, but the sexual aspect of it has been trmendously reduced. And that has lowered the demand for these animals, thereby lowering the monetary worth of them.

It has been my contention for quite some time that there should be a statue of a big blue pill out in fron of the World Wildlife Fund headquarters in Gland.  Perhpas nothing else has contributed as much to the conservation of wildlife.

You are absolutely right, bonobo!

This was my second thought when I first heard about Viagra..... the first was "Woohoo!" :)

I don't suppose it would be PC for the manufacturers to highlight this probably unintended consequence as it might be seen as a knock on Asian cultures. But would be great PR in the West if everyone knew they were saving endangered species while they were having fun! A truly win/win scenario!
