Student Visa ?

Is it possible for a young adult to obtain a student visa and bring there three year old child with them?

I think I know the answer. But, hey I'm far from right all the time.

The goa; is to obtian Masers degree in Thai and become a certified translator.

The Adult can get 12 monthly extensions for education and the child can get the same as his/her dependant.

Here are the extension rules. Have a look at 2.8 , 2.9 , 2.11.

Quite a common case, a lot of students bring their children with them. Children do not pay overstay so as long as they are entering Thailand on any type of visa obtained form a Thai consulate they can stay here as long as their parents.

True but passport will be branded with the scarlet letters for overstay when they leave. At present it has no repercussions however.
