My dad just bought his girlfriend a new laptop and wants to encourage her to use it more. However I think that he should invest in a course to teach at least the basics of computer use, I don't know what it would be called though, I googled a bunch of things looking for something in bangkok that could point him in the right direction but unfortunately not very much useful information came up.

Just wondering if anyone had enrolled someone or been enrolled in something similar or knows what I am looking for.

Any help you guys could provide would be much appreciated.

He has to think about what types of things he wants her to do wih it. Give her a reason - some direction. Many of us learn through necessity or desire. If he just points at it and says, "learn how to use it - do something with it.", he won't get far. Get her interested in taking photos and using album software or some other direct task. Learning one application well can inadvertantly teach us a lot of other things.

Did she ask for a laptop? If so, I assume someone asked her why she wanted one. If not, what possessed the person to buy it in the first place?

You said "use it more" and that would imply that she's using now. See what she's doing with it now and expand on that, or exploit the bit of knowledge she has to help her learn some other things to so with it.

As far as paying for a computer course, I wouldn't. Get a friend to show her the few basics that are needed to do many things. Then get her motivated by completing some very disinct tasks.

Hi My girlfriend and I run a short course for Thai girls new to computers, most Thai girls are really interested in communication and Thai stuff like Sanook.com Showing them how to have fun is most important.. then you grab their interest.. My course is 6 X 1 hour lessons and we have a great success rate.... cost is 500 baht per lesson. I still have girls coming back after 12 lessons just for the fun...
