Hi

I just checked my passport date stamps. Stamped out and in on Sunday 26th July for a 15 day visa on arrival. But I'm due to leave on the Sunday 9th August. This is only 14 days, rather than 15 days. It appears to be a mistake. I will head upto immigration in the morning to correct it to the 10th August I think.

Anyone have any comments? (I have been here a few years so I know pretty much all the basics about visas)

Cheers

You mean you have a 15 day 'visa exempt' stamp. A visa on arrival is something different. The stamp is correct. Your entry into Thailand on 26th July is counted as Day 1. 15 days takes you to 9th August. You say you are leaving on 9th August, so no problem.

The day of arrival counts as the first day, hence 'extending' your stay for only 14 days.

However, I've been told that if you leave from Bangkok International Airport, you will not be charged if you overstay only 1 day.

But the OP will not be on overstay as is intending to leave the country on the day permission to stay expires.

Thanks for enlightening me about the first day counts as day one. So in essence you really just get 14 additional days

It depends on what time you arrive at Thai immigration. If in early hours you get the benefit of most of the day. If you arrive very late evening then essentially you kiss goodbye to a day.

I really believe 9 August is the stamp time rather than when he wants, or plans, to leave from the wording of his OP and the fact he was concerned.

All it is, rather than leave the country at this weekend, I choose to do another border bounce (giving an additional 2 weeks leeway). Monday is a better day to travel to the border and back, than Sunday, as the border immigration is less congested
