Whilst talking to the manager of this place (KT Mansion, On Nut 77) about the s*_t internet, I asked again why I cant put a separate line in. I got this response:

"We have a policy with true, they give us the internet. So that is why u cannot get a separate line to your room"

After this information, it got me thinking - why would true sign off on this agreement when im sure they could make far more money with everyone buying internet from them separately (student filled place).

Would true give me any information about this policy if I phoned up or went into a shop as I have never heard of it before (and if any1 has read my other post's, im pretty pissed off at the internet here). Im considering moving out of here because of it..but if a separate line could be put in place and I be hated by the owners, so be it haha.

Any one could shed some light on this policy would be great.

Thanks

Dan

The 'policy' sounds very suspect to me, to be honest.

You will struggle to get a line installed as the owner of the property has to be involved usually, and they obviously dont want to do that - so i would start looking for a new place to be honest

Called up true, they could not give me details about what the building has done with them. But apparently its not upto true about the policy, its the owner of the building that sets it up and true just agree to it. So basically the guy on the other end said if the manager has done this and do not want the true technician to come in to my room and put a line, they cannot do it. Preeety confused why a company would allow this but hey..its Thailand after all.

Looks like I will be looking for another place then...

And wifi options lopburi - pretty bad option for what i need from the internet. Already looked into using them but worked out far too expensive and not really worth it (was through hutch).

LAME is all i can say...

Building owner is the gate keeper, they decide what goes on in their buildings.

I took over a location from a previous owner (rental), and the building owner insisted on 30k baht per phone line for installation ( for one jumper wire, and most likely a line which has been paid 10x over) . Simply got the old renter to change ownership to my name with Operator, and after changed the number to a new one ( physical line and phone # are not related ).

Saved 30k baht. Building owner non the wiser

moral is, building owners will try to fleece you if they can.

It sounds like the owner might be trying to argue that he has agreed with True to not let any other internet companies in the building. Why would they have an agreement with True to not let True in? Did you make it clear that you are willing to use True internet? Just an idea as sometimes (very often!) some minor mis-communications cause these things.

Yes, it does seem like this case where the owner is the gatekeeper :) Those true wifi services do look promising! but will have to see what feedback it gets from people whilst using it around Bangkok.

I actually tried to ask to speak to main office (the place here said they are the managers of the building but have a head office to report to) but they said no you cannot. Tbh, 3 months later when my lease has run out on the contract I will be moving to somewhere better as this place is annoying as <deleted>. the building itself is great, rooms etc but internet - eugh..you get the picture.

Thanks for the replies. Will keep looking into this wifi though, looks promising!!!

Let me ask a couple of questions.

First, have you tried having a Thai person (not a female) help you out on this?

Second, have you told the condo manager that this will cause you to move out at the end of your lease?

I have to admit, this is interesting. I am getting ready to move into a condo next week and we are seeking to have our own line installed, rather than relying on the True internet and cable tv already installed.
