March 7, 200521 yr I am planning to come to Thailand to live in a couple of months and I have read many threads on here regarding Work Permits. It seems to me that people rely too much on schools to organise this for them Surely it is this simple or am I missing out on something: 1 - I was thinking of getting my One Year Multiple Entry Visa with these guys One Year Visa Thialand /Mod fix link/ 2 - Try and secure a teaching post. 3 - Then apply for my Work Permit 4 - Then start work Any input would be appreciated. March 8, 200521 yr It is not that simple and you are indeed missing a few things. You generally need your school to apply for a WP for you! Without their assistance you're going to have big, big problems obtaining one. You'll also need their assistance (generally) in obtaining a teachers licence. You'll work before you get a WP unless you have some majestic quals (hint hint!). Good luck....if only it was that easy though!
March 8, 200521 yr As I've said many times now on related threads, read the "Red Tape For Teachers" thread somewhere below in this room of the forum. It contains the cynical version of the necessary paperwork process to be a legal, working teacher here. If anyone gives you any other story, they're talking out of their @#$%. "Steven"
March 8, 200521 yr Please come back and tell us how "simple" it was, after you have actually got the work permit.
March 8, 200521 yr Author Please come back and tell us how "simple" it was, after you have actually got the work permit. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Always a smartass somewhere about. Please read what I typed <deleted>. Surely it is this simple or am I missing out on something:

Did you not understand what that is? Ok fair enough. First come to Thailand, find your job, leave the country again and obtain your type B visa, school then takes care of your TL and also your work permit. How can you get a Visa to come and find work? To my understanding there is no such thing. You come on a tourist visa (entry). This expires after a short time and has to be renewed. Read all the threads as they have told you and you'll see its not as easy as you think. Oh and one more thing. YOU CAN NOT GET the workpermit. The school does it for you. Chances are you will just come here and work (under the table) and under the radar anyways. Read the threads, theres more than enough infomation here to help you. Edited March 8, 200521 yr by nokmdk
March 8, 200521 yr Fact of life guys; Get good advice like Sunblet and your workor effort is alot easier. You come here on a 1 year "B", (as their website claims) and then not have to stuff around on TR - B visa hassle. Ok you have to do the Visa run every 90days it sure is better than every 30. When you get the W/P sorted by the school - obviously before you do any work, everything is easy. You then go and do the 1-year extension based on your W/P. You don't need a teachers lisence for a government school. Last I heard you can't get a Teachers Lisence for a Govt school unless you are directly employed by the province. Private schools - different, thay can sort all that with their teams of lawyers - as most people know

However, I've just searched the front page of that weblink and find NOTHING ABOUT TEACHING. As I vaguely understand it, Sunbelt Asia is for business people who wish to start a professional business in thailand, not very often for teachers. They are probably worth every US$100 you pay them, but their services probably don't usually apply to TEACHERS. You asked, Max, for any input and you didn't appreciate some of what you got. Give us some details, please, such as: country of birth, current nationality, color of your face, which degrees you've earned, whether you majored in English or Education, your age, teaching experience, TEFL certification, etc. Those are the factors that affect your chances of starting work, AFTER WHICH the school may or may not help you to get license and work permit. Several of us have taught for a year or even several years in Thailand without getting a WP. Now, have you read the threads to which we kindly refer you?

Which is what they are talking about. They also don't talk about Fabric exporters, IT Professionals etc etc. Maybe because a "B" visa is generic. At the end of the day - isn't it the school who gets the WP and who sponsors the 12 month extension ? details, please, such as: country of birth, current nationality, color of your face, which degrees you've earned, whether you majored in English or Education, your age, teaching experience, TEFL certification, etc. Those are the factors that affect your chances of starting work Very Good advice.

March 9, 200521 yr This may be casting pearls before swine, but if you need your hand held, here's the link to thread I previously recommended: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=16943
