My honest reason is that I am retired but under 50 and living in Thailand much of the year. That is probably more information than Thai immigration would enjoy hearing about. Or more like it, sort of the wrong answer. So, what is the standard "reason" to state in this application? Can you just say "to extend vacation" or "continue touring Thailand" even if you are basically living in one place? Any suggestions, tales of experiences, appreciated. Khutan Posted March 8, 2005 Share Posted March 8, 2005 I got 100days a while ago on my "TR" visa, by bringing my excited and new wife, and the wedding papers, photo's. Why - Extra long Honeymoon in Chaing Mai. The Immi Guy gave me an "Under Consideration" and came back in a month to get the extra 70 days. However, being a somewhat unreasonable sort, I would want to apply earlier than that to be sure of my travel plans. Does anyone know how early I could file the extension application? Tell them you and your gf want to do more travelling. Easy. Thats what i do and many others i know. If you fill in your address in Bangkok or wherever. Then as long as its not a hotel then they will know that you are staying here. Dont worry about it. Dont stress. So if you go to ask for the extension one week prior to the end of the visa your extension starts on that day. Be safe and go the day before your visa expires. However there have been people who have commented before on Thaivisa that they have applied a week early for the extension but it has started from when their 60 days are up rather than date of application...........so it may be one of those situations where it comes down to how the officer feels on the day and his interpretation of the rules. austen Posted March 8, 2005 Share Posted March 8, 2005 Not sure about tourist visas, but I've actually been sent away for coming to renew my non-immigrant B too early (2 weeks). In my case, I just knew I had a few trips coming up in the last month before my visa expired and just figured I'd go ahead and get it done so I wouldn't have to worry about it expiring while I would be away. But evidently, they've got so much paperwork to deal with that they'd just rather work with what's most urgent...coming early is sort of like cutting in line I guess. So in this case, procrastination is actually the thing to do. (I was told at that time to come no sooner than the last week of the visa's validity.) A 2 month visa is good for 60 days. You can then goto immigration pay 1900 baht and get another 30 days extension. Thus you get 90 days all up. But you do pay again for the final 30. Am off to do a visa run to Cambodia for another 30day visa. That should be alright???? I hope so. We leave for Aust in April for 10 days so I can get the Imm B visa done. sua yai Posted March 9, 2005 Share Posted March 9, 2005 Is this a recent thing that you are given 30 days extension from the day you apply as opposed to an extra 30 days from the expiry of the visa? I've extended tourist visas a number of times over the years and I've always got the full 90 days, even if I've applied for the extension 2 weeks before the 60 days is up. rainman Posted March 10, 2005 Share Posted March 10, 2005 Back when i was on the tourist visas and requested an extension for "tourism", i went to the Immigration office in Suan Plu (or whatever its called) and just wrote down "tourism" for the extension reason. The last time i went with my Thai g/f about which the female officer winked at me and said "oh, i understand. see you in 3 months" and gave me the extension - the same officer that gave me an extension 3 months earlier too.
