I shall have a new passport in a couple of weeks. Since the Passport Number appears on the driving licence, am I required to apply for an amended license?

Interesting question!

I haden`t noticed the passport number on my drivers licences before, but there they are!

Cant help with an answer, but waiting for an educated reply.

When I renewed my licence last time, the nice lady noticed that my PP would expire before the licence. She told me to keep a copy of the old PP for when I renew again.

Apparently the number (normally a Thai's ID number) remains with you for ever just like the UK Driver Number, no need to amend.

IMHO it will cause no end of headaches trying to change it, at least leave it until you need to renew at which point take along your old and new passports and ask them what to do.

I had a bunch of year-by-year licenses covering several passports. If I had a new passport come license renewal time, I'd enter that #. If not, let it ride. Same with my first 5-year license, got a new passport half way through the five years, didn't ask for an amendment. A couple months ago got a new 5-year license and for this one, the DMV used the registration # of my Yellow tambien ban, which should never change.

FYI, used this same Yellow tambien ban # when I got the new TESCO-LOTUS "affinity" card yesterday. The gals didn't like my Thai driving license, altho some farang friends have used it at TESCO for the card.

OK guys, thanks.

My local Traffic Office are pretty good so next time that I drive past I shall check with them. If I do need a new one then it's no hassle.

No you dont....I have had 3 passports over the last 5 years and my DL was based on the first of those, recently changed my current license over from the old Koh San road one to the new C/C one, and they just ammended my passport number on the new DL....no problem no comment, even though the P/P# on the Koh san road license differed..
