Big Trouble In Tourist Thailand

All right then Gavin, thanx for helping clear things up. Perhaps this lost in translation stems from being rather perplexed by you calling me Dr Watson over on Talen's blog. Thought you were having dig.... when i was giving some insight to what JJ was saying to his buddies etc...

As said earlier, i had the authorities on back asking for the lowdown on the show and about yourself etc.... Take my word for it, i gave them all the links possible evidencing that Gavin Hill had nothing to do with the dodgy editing, that was Vera's job. All the uncut footage of JJ etc... yeah, all that has gone to the authorities, and that includes the original JJ gun scene video that YouTube has now deleted after complaining about copy infringement - yes, total hypocrisy.

Fortunately, a geezer called Dave has reposted the JJ gun scene original on MetaCafe and DailyMotion.

As i have translated from JJ's local dialect to English - yes, JJ was threatening alright. In contrast, seriously dodgy editing on the audio wasn't all right. As part of the bangkokscams.com team, if one thing good has come out of all this, it is that the Phuket authorities are now clamping down on the jetski scam - a scam which has been going on for years.

Stephen - most certainly WAS NOT having a dig re: Dr Watson ... just failing at being funny again! Can't thank you enough for all your efforts and I agree with all you say. Good work on the translations - Vera didn't want to be bothered with translations because Virgin Media don't like contributors to programmes speaking in any language other than english. Been helping Talen along for weeks, but he never really got it, alas!

Amid all the accusations of negativity regarding this series, there is something that they are obviously not going to show, and that's bent coppers. People who've never been here may watch the show and think that if they come here and have a problem there will be a reasonable European volunteer policeman (or woman) to help them get through it. For someone who grew up in a relatively civilized place an environment where you can't trust the police to do the right thing can be scary, and will keep a lot of potential tourists away. Shouldn't people be warned of this? I would guess the average UK citizen (who the show is being aimed at) has no idea of how to deal with corrupt cops.

Once in Brazil I was in a car with a bunch of fairly well-off citizens, and they got nervous when we encountered a police roadblock (it was nighttime). Fortunately we were waved through. They told me that they are more afraid of the police than they are of the criminals.

On the other hand, an Aussie fellow told me he was pulled over while driving cross country. The cop ended up letting him go without a payoff, saying "this way you can't go home and say all Brazilian police are corrupt."

Stephen - I was being sarcastic ... the "Give Vera Productions a break" was a JOKE. Ask Richard at Paknam Web. The last thing they need to be given is a break. And that's what I was trying to say in my post, and I apologise that my english sense of humour was lost in translation there. Vera Productions failed to convince Virgin Media that BTITT was a bad idea for a title for the series after I protested in the strongest terms. Vera Productions were wrong to fake the audio in the JJ scene, and to cut the balance from the original edit I saw. I am WITH you - not against you in that post. What I'm saying is Vera Productions is a company that makes programmes exposing wrongdoing in serious documentaries - like the one on the UK's Channel 4 about the Coca Cola corporation. And they pillory the UK government. How can we trust their programmes, expecially the Dispatches documentaries for Channel 4, if we know they're prepared to fake and sensationalise - as the raw footage has proved? My post was in support of yours - by blocking the video on You Tube Vera Productions is attempting to stifle the truth - which is hypocritical of them, given the programmes they make.

Gavin, where's the best place to send a "complaint" letter highlighting your points?

RAZZ

Razz - are you seriously asking me to help you complain about my own TV series? Oh ... go on then ... it's a quick and easy step-by-step process to OFCOM, using their site - for example, if you feel cheated or upset about misleading/inaccurate content etc ... go here: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/complain/progs/spe.../?itemid=285269

You can also send letters of complaint to Vera Productions - the M.D. is Geoff Atkinson or Executive Producer Dean Palmer. Even Rory Bremner. They're all first name dot vera dot co dot uk

At Virgin Media it would be the M.D. David Clarke - he's first name dot last name dot virginmediatv dot co dot uk

I was writing to Lucy Pilkington, the Commissioning Editor of the series, but it's being reported today she has quit Virgin Media - http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/news/people/...5006857.article

So, I'd write to Mark Sammon there instead - he's got her job - at mark dot sammon at virginmediatv dot co dot uk if you have any concerns.

And of course you can reach ME right here!

Well done Howard Miller and your crew yet more bad publicity for Thailand what are you going to do next have lunch with Gary Glitter????????? :)

Very pleased to see Herr Howard flagrantly breaking Thai law in episode six (13:27 in to the programme). Love to hear his explanation.

Actually, I really wouldn't.

I've only watched this far ... he may break the law again (let's face it, he has before ... on camera).

''DO NOT RESIST US!!!! DO NOT RESIST US!!!!''

''Sorry, mate. I'm deaf, can't hear you and don't speak English anyway ...''

I am pleased to see you are analysing my actions so carefully, would you like a signed photo of me. I have fully clothed or naked (guess that breaks another law regarding distribution of pornographic images!).

Oh Howard you are my hero!!!

Just remember what goes around comes around because the word is you have put some serious noses out of joint but no change there i guess.

The news paper is great, but the telly stuff is sensationalised garbage which is only adding to the growing bad name of Thailand.

:D

Errr, I don't have a newspaper. Maybe when you eventually make your first trip to Pattaya you may find this out. I love it when people say things like "the word is......", makes me laugh a bit, or should I take it a bit more seriously. Maybe you would like to reveal where your "word" came from?

Good to read it Gavin, as i hadn't known you before like, i was rather bewildered to what kinda message you were trying to relate. My apologies there.

JJ has/had been scamming for years, and he got caught; and he's pished - no sympathy from myself like. But for Vera to edit (Gavin's video) like that makes themselves as bad, if not worse, than the actual scammer.

Here it is again, the original JJ Gun Scene: (see time: approx. 2:17)

How many more episodes are there? I actually look forward to Tuesday mornings to watch the latest.

Still chuckling over the two Indians who didn't like the show and wanted their money back...!!!! And the Russian having to apologise for kicking that poor girl....

Gavin - curious what has Vera said to you about all this if you are liberty to say??

Well, if Vera are to be believed then I'm not at liberty to say.

But I don't believe Vera - who would after the JJ fakery?

So, in answer to your question britmaveric this is what Vera has to say:

"Your contractual duty of confidentiality towards Vera survives any termination of your contract. Further Vera are instructing libel specialists in respect of the damage to Vera's reputation. You are requested to immediately desist from these activities.

For the record Vera disputes any allegation in respect of misleading editorial practices. This is grossly inaccurate and defamatory. For the record, all final editorial decisions had the agreement of Virgin."

but i'm, unaware of how to only quote the last post

There are many ways to quote,

However, try clicking on the quote tab of each post you wish to reply to:

Delete all other text:

Then put your reply beneath each quote, ensuring it is outside the

text
boxes of the original post

Another way is to delete all text apart from what you want to quote and then highlight remaining text and hit the quote icon. 9 icons to the right of the row of icons below fonts button.

But then I have had a few Single Malts, I could have told you inane nonsense, so no change there then.

Except the part about "..80% of the time, the stuff is in the hotel room." Apparently that wasn't trivial to the 80%.

Hoping that television programs and other media outlets don't talk about crimes is not an effective form of crime prevention. Setting appropriate punishments, then investigating and prosecuting violators is. I think you are complaining about something that is not really that much of a concern.

How do we know about that 80%? Because those people were caught. If they weren't, how would we even hear about it? If anything, this says to me that attempting this kind of insurance fraud is a stupid idea and will get you in trouble. Especially in Thailand.

People who commit this crime are pushing up everyones insurance premiums.

Lock 'em up and throw away the key!

it's not an accusation mossfinn, it's fact, how would you expect me to back up these statements? the police failed to arrest the paedophile & i've suggested why in my last post & the tourist police failed to offer any assistance to a foreign visitor in distress which while slightly off tangent is relevant to this thread & the claims that howard continues to make i.e here to help, he's not, he there to get a scoop, massage his ego and flip between being smug and snide

The Thai Police has several officers that do and can speak English.

You apparent failure to communicate a simple allegation to any officers at the location is hardly the fault of Howard, unless you called on him by name and was denied.

Who knows, maybe he was not on duty, was on vacation or the incident never happened...what do we know?

As this must have happened years ago, you either are a loon or got an axe to grind. Which one is it?

Most likely a nutter!! :D

Funny - he never started a topic about this so called incident years ago when it happened. :)

Any rate this is BIB's responsibility, not a TPV Police Assistant's role. Not to mention slagging off HM in a very personal manor which ultimately makes himself look like a muppet. :D
