I have an "O" visa valid until the 11th of November of this year.on july the 21st i was flying back to the uk for 6 weeks and i had to report at imigration for the 90 days. I was ill before(Ihad flu) returning to the UK and failed dismally to report to imigration and acquire a re-entry permit before leaving. I am due to return to Thailand shortly - can somebody advise on the best course of action?

Since you didn't had a re-entry permit, you will have to apply for a new visa in the UK and when ou come back apply for an extension again in the last 30 days of your permission to stay.

I assume you had an extension of stay (it is not a visa) that was to expire in November. What was the basis for your extension of stay?

The only option you have now is to get a single entry O visa before your return and start your extension all over again.

I hope your airline will allow you to board without a visa. officialy you need a visa if you go to Thailand for a period longer than 30 days or they must deny you boarding. Some airlines are strict about this, some don't seem to check at all. So be prepared to book a cheap ticket out of Thailand to a neigbouring country if need be!

If you cvan make it to Thailand I would apply for a ne non-O in a neighbouring country, like Kuala Lumpur or Vientianne, depending on where you live.

What is your reason for getting the extension.

If you can get your paperwork together for proof of income and get to immigration within 8 days of your arrival you could do a change of visa status and not hve to make a visa run. It would mean two trips to immigration one for the change of visa status (2000 baht) and another for the extension (1900 baht)plus all the paperwork twice.

Otherwise it is a trip to Laos or Malaysia.

It also depends on where you live. Some immigration offices will not convert and will send you for that to Bangkok. So it depends on where you live what will be easier for you.

But he doesn't have a visa, and may have a problem at the airport and boarding the flight without a ticket out of Thailand within 30 days.

You cannot obatin a visa inside Thailand - obtain single Non-Immigrant O visa from Thai consulate in neigbouring country. Suggest you book a flight online NOW so you have evidence of outbound flight from Thiailand.

When you have Non-Immigrant visa you will be stamped in for another 90 days on entry into Thailand. Then re-apply for extension of stay during last 30 days of permission to stay.

Since you are flying in via KL on Air Asia I don't think you will have a problem getting on the flight without a ticket. It has been reported before that they don't bother people for a return/onward on the flights to Bangkok from KL.
