Where To Buy Farang In Thai Script Shirt?

Does anyone know where I can buy a shirt that has the word Farang in Thai Script? I want something like this, except with only the Thai Script. I've seen a guy a long time ago wearing one, but didn't have the chance to ask where he bought it. farangbyf.jpg

Herein lies one of the funny things about thailand ... strongly nationalistic but no-one wants a T-shirt with thai writing on it (uncool, daggy, etc). One of the few exceptions would be the red bull shirts.

The only other exceptions?

* here in chiang mai you can get t-shirts (for the tourist market) with ancient lanna script on them

* I have also seen a stall once with ultra-nationalistic T-shirts, e.g. Thailand for Thai people etc etc

To answer your question - i don't think you will get it in thailand unless you had it made specially - but you can find them via google search on the internet (presumably where you got your pic)

PS: Yes I like the farang ATM shirts and suggested (to my wife) making a variation to sell at her market stall. She reckoned, however, that wearers could anticipate a quite negative reaction from some Thai people

If you wore a blue T-shirt that didn't have the word 'Farang' written on it, would they not know? :)

I rememeber a customer coming to my place wearing a T-shirt with a varaition of the old Uncle Sam poster on it. The one with him pointing his finger at you. Instead of it saying 'Your Country Needs You'. It said 'Who the <deleted> Are You? (spelt correctly of course)!!

I answered his question with the statement 'I'm the F%cking owner, so <deleted> off out! :D

There is a shop right on the corner of the road to Mae Rim alongside the ring road that will embroider whatever you want on a shirt. the problem is that you pay a set up fee for the initial embroidery pattern but as you already have one customer why not buy a few?

Chiang Dao Nest designed and sold those t-shirts - I think they have copyright. www.chiangdao.com. The guy's name is Stuart.

Try these guys, they have several branches in CM, one in the Nimahemin area:

www.jipata.biz

e-mail : [email protected]

TEL :(053) 400847-9

They make T-shirts to order. Since they've been around a while and made many designs for many people, they might already have the screen you're looking for.

Seriously Sao Jing Mai, the people you refer to DO NOT have copyrights to a simple Thai word. A little lesson in Copyright Law:

"Titles, names, short phrases, and slogans are not protected by copyright law. Similarly, it is clear that copyright law does not protect simple product lettering or coloring, or the mere listing of product ingredients or contents. The exclusion of these types of materials is not an exception to copyright law, but merely an application of the requirements for copyright protection. To be protected by copyright, a work must contain at least a minimum amount of authorship in the form of original expression. Names, titles, and other short phrases are simply too minimal to meet these requirements. This is why you will often see books and movies sharing the same title."

Yeah, I've had shirts made here before, but it's only cost effective if I made a bunch, which I only want one of these. I've told my wife's friend who runs a booth on Sunday Walking street that I think if she properly found a way to explain to the tourists what the shirts meant, they would probably sell pretty well. As for only Thai script, I thinks that kind of the point. You don't want everyone to be in the know, just the few who know the symbol. The singer for Weezer (Rivers Cuomo) has a Gibson SG he often uses in concert with the logo on it. To some, it's just funny. It's like yeah, I'm a Farang, so what!

Regardless of the rights and wrongs of IP protection, Sao Jing Mai's post would seem to answer the OP's question in full. :)

If you are willing to order from the USA, Cafepress dot com has a good selection of Farang items, Actually, I had a shirt made which says ไม่ใช่ฝรั่ง [ mai chai farang ] which Thai people find quite amusing. I got the idea from a T-shirt seen in Mexico: No soy gringo. CafePress
