I'll be heading to immigration in the next couple weeks to do my annual visa extension based on marriage. I'm a bit worried!

My past 2 extensions, i used my wife's income, as i'm currently enrolled at a university here in Bangkok and am not working. I was recently informed about the new regulations w/ 400000 baht in bank account. I originally thought the 400,000 baht only had to be in a bank account for 2 months to comply with the new rules, so 1 month + 3weeks ago i exchanged my money and threw it in a bank account. I have since learned that the 2 months is only for first time applicants and i actually need my money in the account for 3 months. It seems as if i'm in a tough position.

Can anyone give me some advice???????

And what documents do they need now?????????? they seem to change this every year.

Thanks

The official rules state 2 months for every extension. Some offices want 3 months. You should check with your assigned office to find out what they want. But if they want 3 months it is not the end of the world. You can get an extension for 60 days to visit your wife without any problem which would give you plenty of time.

For the documents needed it is the same. Check with them to find out what they want.

Thanks..... thats a relief to hear!!!

I'll be doing this at the Suan Plu BKK office. If anyone can let me know what they want in regards to length of time money is to be in account and doc. needed. it would be much appreciated.

Do they still want pictures of me and wifey all over the house????

If the OP never used the bank deposit option for extension before he may get away with two months.

I ran afoul of this rule and Suan Plu made it quite clear that if this option has been used before it is now three months. They even made me sign a paper to acknowledge the three months requirement. Had to use the 60 days visit Thai wife option to solve the problem.

YES very much and also a map to your home and don't forget the copy from your marriage register at you local Khet!

You probably will need it to be there for 3 months. But it is hard to say because it is your first extension using the bank method.

Suan Plu has started asking for a copy of marriage registration papers (Kor Ror.3) that you will have to get at the Amphoe or Khet where your marriage is registered. Edit: This is the document that opalhort wrote about.

Yes pictures.

You also will need the bank letter and it will need to be dated no later than the day before. Plus copies of your bank book. You will need to have the bank book updated on the date of application.

Just as a side note:

According to the officer at Suan Plu the Kor Ror 3 is not required for a 60 days 'visit Thai wife' extension, only for one year extensions.

What exactly is this Kor Ror.3? Is it the marriage certificate?

No. It is the copy of the Marriage Register page where you registered your Marriage.

I havn't got one either so have never seen it.

Immigration website says Kor Ror 2 is the marriage certificate. So it is probably wrong or they have changed numbers.

My marriage certificate says Kor Ror 3 on the back of it. Almost 8 years old though.

The marriage certificate is 3 unless there has been a change since I got married. What they also need now is the Kor Ror 2.

correct! Sorry I just followed ubonjoe's post.

I usually have the following ready and produce as requested. Many people think it's over the top and way far too much, but better safe than sorry. Why go all the way back home when you can just open your briefcase and produce it there and then?

TM7 application form & photo

B1,900 fee

Passport & Arrival Card (TM6)

Signed copy of passport & TM6

90 days report slips (if any)

Marriage certificate

Signed copy of marriage cert

Tabien Baan

Wife's ID card

Signed copy of ID card

Wife’s passport data page

Signed copy of wife’s passport

Bank letter (dated day of application or 1 day before is OK)

Savings book

Signed copy of savings book

ATM receipt (dated day of application)

Signed map of address

Photos of house/wedding

If you can produce all these, you're OK!!

You don't have what we have been discussing on your list.

It is now needed because there have been more than one report about it.

A first time applicant was recently asked for a copy of their Affirmation of Permit to Marry.

Bangkok and some other offices have been asking for the bank book to be updated on the date of application.

The ATM receipt can be an alternative. Some people are even getting the bank letter done on the same day just to be safe.

Just returned to a marriage extension from a 8 year work extension. First three years on marriage extension. Seems Chiangmai has changed some. No pictures were required, no map, only the decorative marriage certificate. The one surprise was that they alsways ask for the affidavit from the consulate which we had. After filling in all the paperwork and going over the docs, she looked up and ask where my proof of income from America was to verify the income. Shock, however, I did have my Military retired pay statement and two benefit letters from the Social Security Office. Just what she needed. "Go get two copies of each for me."

Also provided a copy of bankbook with 400,000 in it, but no letter from the bank because I was using monthly income. So if your using the US Consulate affidavit for proof of income, be ready to show additional proof of income.

Hope this helps some unsuspecting immigration customer.

Yes Nong Khai said to me that for the first extension using the 400k rule it could be 2 months if you've been extending using other methods (as in my case with my wife's salary) previously.

"So if your using the US Consulate affidavit for proof of income, be ready to show additional proof of income."

It sounds like they took that from you instead of the US Embassy letter.

I wonder if you got lucky, or if it's something we could have been doing all along. Does anyone know - for sure?

I've never been asked for anything else once i showed the letter, but I think it prudent to have it available, just in case.

Having just the 'something else' would save some baht.

As I understand it the Embassy letter was presented with the normal documents and the supporting documents to back up the letter figure was an extra request.
