I came with a non-immig cat B visa, first 90days multiple re-entry permit will expire 16Sept09. Am now married legally to thai wife, we both work for same company and earn 45T++ each. Should I now extend visa to support thai wife and for work; or simply extend cat B? Considering current situation where job is not that stable. Anyone in the same situation before? thanks guys!

The choise is your, although if you are western you have to have at least 50,000 a month income to be able to extend based on working. The income requirement depends on your nationality.

if your income is less than 50,000 a month it might be the case that you don't have an option but to go for an extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai national.

An extension based on marriage is more work, both for you and immigration, but you don't have to leave the country in case you lose your job. If you have an extension based on working you have to leave the same day you lose your job, but can get an extension based on marriage.

For wife would allow you to stay for the full term even if employment ends. So if money is tight and 400k would be a problem suspect you should try for the wife extension. If you have money to keep in a bank account at 400k it would not make that much difference as you could always change later if employment was lost.

Im south east asian. Income is actually 50Kplus each for me and mywife. Don't have 400K now.

So, is marriage extension better for me?

"An extension based on marriage is more work", what this means? what more requirements?

The wife will have to appear and answer questions each time and her documents (ID and Home Register) will be required. Photos together in and around house and investigation by police that you are living together will be conducted. There will be a 30 day or longer review period before the final extension of stay is provided. But all the company paperwork will not be required so it is probably your best choice.

40.000 baht / month is enough for extension of stay based on marriage.

If you don't have any income you can go for the 400.000 in bank option.

Just came back from immigration for my extension.

I had both alternatives. :)

2.18 In the case of a family member of a Thai(applicable only to parents, spouse, child, adopted child or child of his/her spouse):
