Hi,

If my family and I are to stay in Thailand for about 6 months, what are our options? My wife has Thai citizenship. I'm a Danish citizen as well as are our two children. What visa options exist and will the children also need to obtain visas? Thankyou!

Regards,

bobthedog.

You can get a multiple non-O visa from the Thai embassy, on show of your marriage certificate to a Thai. The non-O will allow you to stay for 90 days. A multiple allows you to return and get another 90 days, without the need for a new visa. As long as the multiple non-O is valid, you will get permission to stay for 90 days maximu each time you enter Thailand.

I presume you go for an extended holiday/family visit.

As the mother is Thai, your children also have Thai nationality by way of law. If you apply for a Thai passport for them they don't need a visa. Otherwise they will need a visa, the same as you.

A double entry tourist visa will give 6 months with extensions from Immigration. Or go for the Non Imm O as Mario said

Children under 14 are not fined for overstay although they will nee a Visa to enter. If they are dual Thai why not get them a Thai Passport?

The children do not nee? need a visa at all as they have a Thai parent.

As for your needs, you will have no problem obtaining either a double/triple tourist or multiple entry non-immigrant visa.

Thanks for the replies. I don't think the children will be able to get Thai passports though, as Denmark do not allow double citizenship (thus, they will loose their Danish citizenship if they apply for Thai citizenship). So I guess the children will have to apply for visas as well.

Your children are already Thai, their mother being Thai.

Dual nationality is, of course, accepted in various situations, such as if persons are born with dual nationality. As an example it can be mentioned that persons born in the USA or Canada by Danish parents also acquire US or Canadian nationality at birth on the basis of the so-called territorial principle.
You will not lose your Danish nationality if you acquire a foreign nationality automatically, for example by marriage.

Getting a passport is different from applying for Thai citizenship.

In Danemark, it seems you loose your Danish citizenship, if you apply for a new one, not if you already have it.

But, I'm not Danish, nor a lawyer
