Hi,

I'm currently back in the UK on a 3 week holiday with my thai wife and our daughter. I would like to apply for a one year non immigrant o visa from Hull. We have our marriage certificate- I believe that is the only requirement.

The problem is my passport only has 4 blank pages left- would it be possible to convert my non o visa into a new passport in Bangkok? I will need a new passport from the UK embassy in Bangkok in about 6 months time when all the pages are finished.

Could someone shed some light on this please?

Thanks in advance.

When you get your new passport your current permision to stay will be transferred over by Immigration. Your Visa will remain in your old passport.

You will have to travel with both passports until the Visa expires.

The visa is issued by consulate abroad and cannot be transferred by immigration. Immigration will transfer only the current permission to stay stamp (which they issued) to the new passport.

I thought all visa are only acquired from country you have traveled from , and cannot be changed or altered, you must return to Thailand and reapply ,

Visas are issued by Thai consulates and these are outside Thailand. It is extensions of stay are issued inside Thailand, by immigration offices.

Good subject.

I have heard of people tranferring theire non immigrant visa's to new passports but I question the validity.

I am in the same boat, besides having three passports, I only have 4 pages left in the passport of which my current visa resides..

I am interstested in other views and whether this poses a problem.

If that is three passports issued by three different countries, your visa is not able to be moved to a different national passport.

You do not need for travel but always a good idea to keep it in case someone whats to check original visa during new extension of stay process - some have been asked but expect if they did not have it would not have been a problem as they have it in there records.
