I am currently in Thailand on an ED visa that I can extend every three months (for an additional three months). It says 'S' for entries on the Visa however. If I leave Thailand, does that mean I will lose my Visa and have to apply for a new one? And lose the ability to keep extending this one every three months?

Thanks

Your visa was valid for a single entry into Thailand. It became invalid the moment you arrived in Thailand and can no longer be used to enter Thailand.

When you arrived in Thailand with your visa your received permission to stay for 90 days. Look at the “until” date on your entry stamp. You can keep this permission to stay alive by getting a re-entry permit from your local immgration office. Once you have this stamped in your passport you can leave Thailand and return again before the expiration of your current permission to stay, and you can then apply for 90-day extensions of stay based on the original non-ED visa you had.

...and in the process you will learn Thai, which you will find useful since you plan to stay in Thailand for a long time. Not an easy language to learn, but it can be a lot of fun.

Thanks very much for the reply but I don't understand. Right now my passport says I can stay until November 10th. I plan to get a three month extension on this, and to continue getting those three month extensions as long as I keep learning Thai. But I would like to take a weekend trip to Macau. Is it possible for me to take that trip without having to re-apply for a new ED visa?

You mentioned a non-ED visa in your post. That isn't what I want. I want to remain in Thailand with an ED visa, the one I already have and which can be extended for up to 10 years or more (according to my Thai school). But in order to keep using that same ED visa, am I giving up the ability to leave Thailand during that time?

Again, my goal isn't just to stay in Thailand. My goal is to be here on an ED visa.

Thanks

If for your trip to Macau you plan to return before 10 November, get a single-entry re-entry permit from your local immigration office. If your return from Macau will be later than 10 November, get an extension of stay first, then your re-entry permit. The fee for a single-entry re-entry permit is 1,000 Baht.
