Uk National Married To A Thai

This is based on bar talk I must admit.

However, I was told by four UK nationals resident in Thailand and married to a Thai that they receive an allowance of around fifty pounds per week paid by the UK government based on their marriage.

This will only available until next January apparently.

Can anyone confirm or deny this please?

It could be that these expats do 6 months here, 6 month uk, to entitle themselves to receive benefit. Due to the fact that they may be claiming long term sickness benefit, they could be using their wive's in claiming 'cares allowance'. Due to passports now being 'chipped' it's easy for the UK government to track ones movements. So consequently after the said date they may no longer wish to make that claim. Just my opinion.

Edit:- After seeing the above post, I may be wrong ?

Thanks Lite Beer.

I am sorry if this is old hat but how do I go about claiming?

This is the first I have heard about it.

I should also add that I am only 46 years old.

Any information will be gratefully received.

You have to be 65 years old and receiving a state pension.

I watch with interest, as I never knew this either.

I`m only a baby at 57.

Thought this was too good to be true. Had my hopes raised for a minute when I read the first post.

I am in receipt of my state pension since May of this year and claimed the dependents benefit allowance in July.

My state pension is arriving at my bank every 28 days but the dependents allowance has not yet been paid though I have been assured that it will be backdated to the date my pension was first paid.

As it is the dependents benefit I shall give it to my wife to do with as she pleases. :):D
