Application For Extension To A Non-immigrant Visa

Hi all,

I'm staying in Bangkok and need to renew my one year visa (based on staying with my child) that expires in the middle of November.

How long before the expiration date should I go to the Immigration?

What are the current requirements (documents) ?

Less than 30 days. Expect the requirement will be the same as last time as have not seen any posting otherwise (believe you are on an extension as a visa would not allow a one year stay). What you will be doing is extending your stay again. It is not a visa.

If you are really using a multi entry visa and want to use extension instead advise and people should be able to give you a rundown of documents/financial requirements.

Apply within the last 30 days.

You now have to supply evidence of 400,000 Baht in a Thai bank OR 40,000 Baht monthly income. Not sure whether you did this last year.

(5) In the case of a parent, one of parents must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit of not less than 400,000 baht for expenses within a year.

Indeed, I stay on one year extension and need to extend it again.

Since my current extension is based on staying with my child (I'm over 50 and my wife is Thai), I was not required to show any money in Thai bank (even so, there is no problem to provide a bank statement). Is it a new requirement (a.k.a. 400,000 Baht) ?

I also remember that I was requested to show photos of my family at our place of residence. Is it still needed?

1. Application form T.M. 7 with one photograph size 4x6 cm. and Visa Fee 1900.-Baht

2. Marriage Certificate

3. Child's birth certificate

4. Wife’s house registration

5. Wife’s identity card

6. Copy passport, non-Im visa, arrival card.

7. Interview the husband and wife for confirming status of husband and wife

8. Map to residency

9. Picture of house and family, in house and outside showing house number.

With money in bank option.

1. Letter from bank same day or day before stating bank records, make a transaction just before to get it up to date.

With Income option

1. A copy of work permit

2. Personal Corporation income Tax (PND.1) in latest 3 months and personal income tax for previous year with receipt

Yes the financial requirement is back. You must have just missed it last year. Photos may not be asked again but I would have them just in case.

For the benefit of other members...

The other day I went to Immigration (new offices on Chaengwattana Road) to renew my one year extension of stay. All the paperwork mentioned by PoorSucker in post #5 was ready to hand.

First of all, the officer asked if my daughter is studying at school, and upon positive reply, informed me that I need to produce photos of me and my daughter in front of school (the school name should be visible, and she should be in school uniform). That is in addition to photos of the family at home (which I had).

I also brought a letter from my Bank (cost me this time only 100 Baht) showing my records. Fortunately, it shows more than 800K Baht (in my Foreign Currency Account). When the officer saw it, he suggested me to apply for a retirement extension, saying that it will be issued without delay and there will be no need to come again.

So, I got my one year extension based on retirement. I also paid another 2k Baht to get my "90 day" report.

So, in total, it cost me 4,000 Baht (100+1,900+2,000) plus gas (I drove there myself). BTW, car park under the building is free.

The 2,000 Baht would be because you were late doing your 90 day report.

Yes. But the more correct answer is:

The 2,000 Baht was because the visa extension officer said so.

When I went to the "90 day report" counter, they, first, issue the 90 day paper without any payment.

When I showed this paper to the officer that deals with the visa extensions, he told me to go back and pay 2,000 baht.

As a conclusion, it is better to make a 90 day report first (it will be free of charges), and then apply for extension. They are now checking that you have a valid 90 day report prior to issuing the extension. It is also a new thing.
