Air Asia To Perth Was Fantastic

I just flew to Perth via KL on Air Asia. Brand new jumbo jets, excellent service. Very good meals which you pre-order for about BT120. Stop over 4 hours at KL low cost airport was pleasant with good restaurants and bars half the price of "Swampy". There were plenty of helpfu Air Asia staff every where. Previously I was flying to Perth via Qantas and Singapore airlines. I consider Air Asia better and less than half the cost. They now have promotional fares at about Bt 8K-10k return inc tax. Only drawback- no alcohol; but to offset this I arrived at my destination clear headed with no jet lag or hangover which I always used to have after consuming a lot of free drinks offered on the other airlines.

I have flown many times on Air Asia mostly domestic and Vietnam. I consider them really first class

:) I like some people write positive about Air Asia. I like them to very much and book already 10 tickets for different neighbour countires from October - March.

One thing I am woundering: As I know the Jumbo Jet 747-xxx was build 25 - 30 years ago; maybe you make mistake and mean the A 320 (Airbus) which was start deliverd last year??? :D Enjoy your flights.

Air Asia don't fly any Boeing 747 anymore, so yes it must have been a A320:

Now if they would just replace the Boeing 737's, as used on my recent round trip flights to Phnom Penh, it'd be great.

Granted that for a 45 minute flight, it's not really a comfort issue as much as it is just a really old plane.

AirAsia is expanding faster than ever and that is just tremendous news for all Thailand-based travellers. Coupled with their ever-expanding Tune Hotel chain, traveling is extremely affordable.

Btw, our Cambodian trip came in at 2,600 baht all in for 2 round-trip tickets. Next stop is Macau... 2 round-trip tickets for 3,300 baht.

Thanks to the "other" Tony.... the founder of AirAsia.

I booked online. They have a sort of business class seats called XL (extra large) but only on thier flights to Australia. I did actually fly this way. If you are a very big or tall person like myself. They were nice and comfortable. The fare cost me Bt23,000 which is more than double the price. I travelled economy to KL and back from Bangkok and it was not too cramped for me, but more room than SIA in which I felt like a sardine. Unless you are as above like me, I think economy is OK. I am not sure the extra cost of XL is worth it.

I think they are flying to London soon and I wonder what thier "business" class seats will cost.

Another plus for them is when you phone them they speak excellent English and are very helpful.

For Oz or Uk its KL

NB this is not KLIA but the low cost carrier teminal so allow an extra hour transfer if changing airports

All Air Asia are at the LCCI where theres a true Formula 1 style cheap motel macDonalds Asian food etc ATMs but no where near a town so no pharmacy shops etc

AA do have a very ltd no of exit seats for an extra fee for able travellers

The flight to London left late but arrived at midnight just in time for last trains nto London otherwise 70-100 quid taxi which makes Air berlin a better bet for me 80 euros extra for an exit seat

They do not take cards but my European one worked fine

Dusseldorf Airport with 2 train stations clean seating areas friendly staff and food as cheap as BKK shows what swampy could have been

Air Asia X , who operate the long-haul flights from Perth to KL, use A330s (plenty on-order) but also (if memory serves me right) launched their London-Stansted route with an A340-300, so it would have been a wide-bodied Airbus, not a B747.

Indonesia Air Asia operate the shorter Perth-Bali flights, which I guess would be either a B737 or an A320, but anyway definitely a narrow-body aircraft.

I know ... I must get out more ! I'll just go get my anorack !! :)

I usaully fly direct to Perth from Swampy with Royal Thai it's nice to know there's another option available. The plane's that Thai run on the Perth Bangkok route are really old with no Audio /Visual entertainment package to speak of. I stopped using Thai years ago for my London Flights but it appears they are still the only Airline running flights direct to from Perth from Bangkok
