Narathiwat declared flooding disaster zone

Narathiwat - The provincial administration here declared all 13 districts in the province as a flooding disaster zone following four days of torrential rains.

Narathiwat Governor Thanon Wejkornkanon said all 13 districts became the disaster zone because the water level rose very high.

Khetha Khekarat, director of the Narathiwat Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, said the floods affected 10,264 families in 193 villages in the 13 districts.

Public Health Ministry prepares 200,000 sets of medicine for southern flood victims

BANGKOK, Nov 7 (TNA) - The Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) had been instructed to prepare 200,000 sets of generic medicines for distribution to flood victims in 14 provinces of Thailand's southern region as the floods in many provinces are still at critical stage, according to Minister of Public Health Witthaya Kaewparadai.

Mr Witthaya said he had instructed the public health offices in 14 provinces of southern region to set up mobile medical units of doctors and nurses to help give medical care to the flood victims.

The medicinal packages will be distributed to locals as preliminary tools to take care of themselves, he said, adding that psychiatrists would also be available to give advice to the victims who lost their loved ones to ease their stress.

It was expected that the medicines could be distributed on Monday.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Interior Thaworn Senneam ordered the agencies concerned to survey flood damages in order to prepare to give help, as many people were affected from floods and landslides.

He said that on Sunday, he would visit flood victims in Narathiwat and Yala to follow up the measures to help the flood victims.

In Songkhla, the authorities were still raising yellow flags to warn the people of flooding, as the situation was still at critical level.

The provincial administration here declared all 13 districts in the province as a flooding disaster zone following four days of torrential rains. The authorities had distributed relief to the flood victims.

Some 10 homes were reportedly washed away by the flood.

In Narathiwat, the authorities retrieved four bodies from the mud after a a hillside slipped free in Srisakorn district. Four people were still buried, believed to be missing in the mud.
