"Sipa launches fast-track system for IT workers

BANGKOK: Foreign IT workers coming to Thailand will be the envy of employees in all other sectors with the launch today of a new online system by the Software Industry Promotion Agency (Sipa).

The system will allow the government to process foreign IT workers’ applications for work permits and extensions of stay in just three hours."

It is not that difficult to move to Thailand. There are a lot of teaching jobs here.

If you have some savings even better. All you need are some degrees from

your country.Contact me if you need more info.

Bates,

If you move here and fail at a couple of things in your 20's, you're more likely to get back up on your feet (and perhaps build something successful) than if you do so in your 50s or 60s. IMO, this is THE place to be to build something from nothing as long as you manage your time and money wisely. (that last part typically also includes not getting caught up in marriage and raising children until you are financially ready)

Thanks for the idea's guys...

I know moving to Thailand would be a very hard thing to do. That's why I posted on this forum to share others experiences. Being a teacher would be an option indeed. Yet, I don't want to take a BIG risk in losing all my savings that I brought into LOS. Starting a company would be an idea too... or finding a Belgian company that has relationships with Thailand (very rare).

I'm really at the end of my thoughts now...

Some of you tell me to do it... others tell me not to do it...

Last February when I went to Chiang Mai I was on the airplane sitting next to a certain MR Buckle. He was british and lived in Thailand, having his own company with offices in BKK and Hong Kong. He told me that there wouldn't be any problem for me to get a job... What the...??

PS: Bull and SukPeter, i'll PM you guys asap.

I think some of the members are painting a positive face on the possibility without giving some of the cold hard facts..

Chances of you finding employment that could turn into a carear (eg salary that makes you wealthy, prospects to increase, save for the future, provide for family, educate children to an international standard to give them a chance in the world) are nearly nil.. You are undercut by Thais, undercut by other nationals (indians in IT), undercut by farangs who will work as a busmans holiday..

The 'savings' you mention that you dont want to loose.. Sorry to sound cold but its no where near what you need to get started in life.. if it lasted you 6 months in BKK or a farang area (phuket) I would be surprised, its not unusual for me to spend that in a little over 3 as a resident (I dont cheat myself on anything though).. Its not safe startup capital and wouldnt even buy you time needed to get the feel for how business is done..

One exception is getting a defined skill set and telecomutting to Europe.. I have a friend who is working as a unix / bsd security consultant.. His package is basically a Euro wage paid tax free for 4 days a week work.. He starts at 3 PM and is very comfortable.. His company did not want to loose him..

Transfering in from a multinational would require you to get yourself into the multi national first and also does not guarantee long term employment..

Otherwise perhaps your GF could adapt for a while she either tops up training or adjusts carear expectations and you start to earn real money..
