Hi everyone,

I have read a few postings about the requirements for obtaining a non immigration O visa based on marriage, but I can't find out what the benefits are.

Currently I'm on a non immigration visa based on studying (ED), but that will soon expire. I can easily renew that visa as i'm still studying, but wondered if getting a non O marriage based visa would be more beneficial (i'm soon to be married to my Thai gf)?

With my ED visa I have to leave the country every 90 days to make my stamp, is this still the requirement with the marriage visa?

Any other advantages or disadvantages, e.g. costs etc much appreciated.

Thank you all in advance.

A Non Imm O Visa based on Marriage would still need you to leave the country every 90 days.

A 12 month extension based on marriage would not.

You need to meet the financial requirements to get the extension.

400,000 Baht in a Thai bank OR 40,000 Baht monthly income. Plus a few other things.

Alternatively you could obtain single entry Non-ED visa when your current visa expires and then renew your permission to stay at Thai immigration every 90 days with supporting paperwork from the school. Fee 1900 baht for each extension, but no need to leave the country. Be aware that if your studying were to stop your permission to stay would end too, but you could obtain Non-O visa from embassy/consulate abroad on basis of Thai wife or apply for extension of stay based on marriage if meet the criteria.

A work permit can easily be issued on a non immigrant O visa or extension of stay. Unlikely on an ED (although there are a few exceptions).
