Hi a travel agent just called to tell me that my friends flight to London has been cancelled. flight was due out 6th May and to return 4th June. I am going to have trouble contacting my friend( he already has his ticket). What is the airlines responsibility because it is more than 15 days notice can they just cancel or are they responsible to just put him on another flight or compensation because of cause it will be impossible to find a cheap flight at this late stage? What are the new rules that just came in? Any help would be appreciated

If you bought the ticket in Thailand, you have very little to go with unless you have a travel insurance policy covering such events.

If the company is not bust and they cancel a flight they 'should' offer you an alternative or a full refund. As they are not IATA members or not even a scheduled carrier (I think) they would not be able or willing to accomodate you on another carrier as it would mean loosing money.

It looks like they are in pretty bad shape. I would try to gte a full refund and find an alternative on a 'better' carrier

Thai flight Britons in second jet breakdown

By Ben Webster, Transport Correspondent (with thanks)..abridged R

MORE than a hundred British holidaymakers stranded in the Middle East after their aircraft developed a fuel leak were delayed again when their replacement jet broke down. The passengers were due to arrive back at Gatwick last night, almost 60 hours late.

The replacement aircraft sent by Phuket Air was found to be dangerously low on fluid for its hydraulic systems when it arrived in Sharjah.

The passengers had been waiting since Sunday after refusing to reboard their original ageing Boeing 747-200.

The pilots of that aircraft had earlier been forced to abort take-off after passengers spotted fuel gushing from the wings. Holidaymakers threatened to storm the cockpit if the aircraft was not grounded.

Phuket Air said that the passengers had only themselves to blame for the extra delay as they should have accepted the Thai airline company’s assurances that the aircraft was safe.

Phuket Air’s UK sales manager, said “I have been informed by one passenger that the delay to the original flight was caused by a group of typical drunken Brits.

“We will not be compensating them ....you wanna BET :D

People were fed and watered in Sharjah. --CATTLE CLASS..MOO MOO :o

We feel that is compensation enough .... BREAD AND WATER

One passenger, claimed that Phuket Air had left passengers without food or drinks for more than ten hours. ....Give them CAKE :D

He said that the airline told travellers “something different every 20 minutes”.

Speaking from Sharjah, he said: “It’s a horrible, nasty situation and some people are frightened to fly Phuket Air.”

The company said that the original fuel leak had been caused by ground staff at Sharjah overfilling the fuel tanks.

No Mention of them QUITTING the UK. :D

Travel agent said phuket air would not take responsibility. They only had my number and wanted to arrange a different flight themselves. 1800 baht more for same day by Etihad. Managed to get hold of my friend and he took it after reading about Phuket air on this forum he considers himself very lucky.

The EU's new Air Passenger Rights - which came into force on February 17 - are unlikely to be on your side with "cowboy"airlines....from 3rd World Countries. :D . .....sorry....

Airlines which cancel a flight are obliged to refund your ticket (and fly you home, if you are abroad) or provide "alternative transport to your final destination".

In practice, this means a flight on whatever aircraft is available, or a long bus journey from an alternative airport.

If the carrier bumps you off the flight or cancels it altogether, and you refuse to volunteer for a refund or an alternative flight, you are entitled to compensation - which varies between 250 euros for short-haul and 600 euros for long-haul flights.

The EU is also keen to ensure that passengers are not stranded at airports without food or accommodation during long delays, as has happened with some no-frills carriers.

however... :D

Passengers flying on a NON-EU carrier will also find that the EU's regulations only apply on the Outward leg.

So a cancelled flight into JFK does attract EU compensation, but on the return to Heathrow the American rules will apply.

It therfore appears to suggest that flying say Thai from London to Bangkok your will get Compo.... on the way out.... but not on the return leg :o

Flying B.A.-KLM.-Luft-SAS-Alitali-.....or even Biggles Budgie Airways to GO you will get it on BOTH legs... :D
