Hello,

Welcome to my invitation!!

This year has been pretty nuts to say the least. On May 1st I gave up drinking for 12 months to improve my fitness and concentrate on getting more out of each day. Although very difficult at first, I feel now better than ever and it has certainly improved my life and my fitness is back to its best.

To finish the year, myself and my friend have decided to cycle from Bangkok to Singapore - we are doing it in aid of Breast Cancer. The journey is just over 2000km and we aim to complete that within 14 days. We will stay in cheap hotels and guest houses along the way. Although we are very keen sports people, and train daily we have not done a cycle journey previously that exceeds 300km.

It's going to be a brilliant journey through the east coast and south of Thailand (including a short trip over the Burmese border) to Malaysian west coast to Kuala Lumpur..then to Singapore. We thinks its a pretty great way to spend the christmas period and into new year and I'm sure we'll find some christmas dinner and festive parties along the way.

We are the type of people that are always lucky enough to be invited to various events and into groups of people we've never met so we would love to offer the same and make the trip available to anyone who's a regular cyclist at a good level of fitness who would like to join us for the entire trip or just for part of the trip. We will be starting in Bangkok on 20th December and aim to cover about 150km (or 94miles) per day. The return journey will either be a flight or train journey...unless we're feeling energetic!

I will be drawing a map up this week of the planned route and also beginning to document the next 35 days training on my Twitter page. We hope to raise some interest which will hopefully in turn increase the donations to the Breast Cancer foundation via www.justgiving.com.

We understand fully that its a certain type of crazy animal that doesn't mind being away from family or friend or parties and food at this time of year but please reply to this blog or personal message me if you're interested in taking part.

WE ARE ALSO URGENTLY SEEKING TWO GOOD QUALITY ROAD BIKES. WE HAVE MOUNTAIN BIKES BUT FOR OBVIOUS REASONS WILL BE DOING THE JOURNEY ON ROAD BIKES. WE HAVE CASH WAITING TO BUY THE BIKES OR RENT FOR A 2 MONTH PERIOD. IF YOU CAN HELP US IN ANYWAY WE WOULD MORE THAN APPRECIATE IT !! Please personal message us with details, we can travel anywhere in Thailand to pick up (and deliver back if rented), for rented bikes we can supply full documentation and supply a deposit if required. We are slightly worried about sending our bikes over from Sweden and England.

Thanks for reading and for your support!!

All the best,

Lee

Hi!

It was pretty great actually...although at times during the ride we would have rather have been anywhere else.

We set of on 20th December from Bangkok, headed south to Chumphon, then Surat Thani then headed East and kepy close to the Coast towards Songkla and then inwards to Hat Yai. Late on 24th we crossed the Malaysian border, then another 4 days we were in Kuala Lumpur...then we landed in Singapore around 2pm on 31st....just in time to meet some friends for a new years eve party. It was much faster than we had planned but we set of with some long days with the thought we would be in much pain towards the 10th day (which we were!!).

We woke around 6am everyday and set off 6.30am at first light and rode until between 4pm and 7pm usually but there was 2 nights we rode into the dark after getting split up after I took an injury and had to rest for half a day. When we had finished cycling or the day we had a big meal usually lots of rice, and then fell asleep within the hour so had plenty of sleep before the next morning.

It was a great experience and I'd recommend anyone to do it. I wont forget The Malaysian jungles, the south Thailand East coast and the Mountains around North Kuala Lumpur...we saw some great stuff. We travelled really lightly, at first with rucksacks but after 3rd day we sent them home and for the next 7 days wore the same cycling shorts and tshirt until we got to singapore.

We're now planning to start cycle tours in Thailand. We know of one other company that do it in Phuket, but would like to organise different types of cycle tours and training for club cyclists.

(Dec 20th) Day one – Bangkok – Hua Hin = 239km

(Dec 21st) Hua Hin – Chumphon = 265km

(Dec 22nd) Chumphon – Sichon, Nakhon Si Thammarat = 255km

(Dec 23rd) Sichon – Songkhla = 273km

(Dec 24th) Songkhla – Alor Setar 116km

(Dec 25th) Alor setar – Penang 112km

(Dec 26th) Penang – Ipoh 170km

(Dec 27th) Ipoh – Selangor 157km

(Dec 28th) Selangor – South Kuala Lumpur 114km

(Dec 29th) South Kuala Lumpur – Melaka = 149km

(Dec 30th) Melaka – Selatan = 167km

(Dec 31th) Selatan – Singapore = 103km

There are already dozens of companies doing bike tours in Thailand (see SpiceRoads.com, crouchingtiger.com, backroads.com, etc) But none of them are organizing tours with 100+kms per day, every day. Maybe that's the way to differentiate yourselves. Or maybe there just aren't enough people who want to do that kind of mileage. In any case, I wish you the best of luck. And congratulations on finishing your tour. I'm very impressed by your consistently high mileage.

Really great to hear that el jefe....I haven't heard of those companies but I knew there were a few who did the shorter rides. We want to do some longer rides around SE Asia, crossing into Thailand's bordering countries. One of the tricky things whilst we were on route was finding food and hotels along the way...its easy to make a plan but when the terrain is unpredicatable its also easy to over/under ride in a day...we'll put lots of thought into though. Have you rode with any of the companies you mentioned?

Thanks for that! It's a case of completing each day and then rocovering for 10 hours. We're itching for the next now!!

Thanks again for the info.
