Military Suspected Myanmar Drone Crashes in Tak

A suspected drone believed to belong to the Myanmar military crashed inside Thai territory in the morning of 21 July, prompting Thai authorities to declare a danger zone in the affected area. At approximately 07:00, soldiers from the 35th Ranger Task Force (Company 3502) responded to a report from residents of Ban Khun Mae Woei in Tha Song Yang District, Tak Province, who discovered a crashed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in a forest roughly five kilometres from the village. Upon inspection at the crash site in Village 5, Tha Song Yang Subdistrict, rangers identified the drone as a kamikaze-type UAV. The wreckage included a battery pack, a signal receiver, a motor unit and a gas cylinder mounted on the drone’s nose, suspected to be fitted to an explosive warhead. The drone was marked with the code “DW 06 L-85.” As a precaution, military personnel cordoned off the site and designated it a hazardous area. The local village chief was instructed to alert residents and prevent anyone from approaching the site. The drone remains were collected and transferred to Company 3502 headquarters for further investigation by relevant authorities. However, the suspected warhead, still embedded in the gas cylinder, was left in place. Authorities coordinated with explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) teams to safely recover and analyse the device. Initial assessments suggest the drone may have originated from the Myanmar military (Tatmadaw), as its design closely matches UAVs previously used in attacks on KNLA (Karen National Liberation Army) positions in March 2019 and June 2025. Officials believe the drone was likely intended to strike a KNLA special battalion base located across the border from Ban Khun Mae Woei. However, due to a malfunction or navigational error, it veered off course and crashed into Thai territory. The incident highlights growing concerns over cross-border military activity and potential risks to civilian safety along Thailand’s western frontier. Investigations are ongoing. RUSSELS (Reuters) -Belgium's King Philippe described abuses in Gaza as a "disgrace to humanity" in a speech on the eve of Monday's national day, unusually direct remarks on international affairs from a monarch who traditionally avoids public politics. "I add my voice to all those who denounce the serious humanitarian abuses in Gaza, where innocent people are dying of hunger and being killed by bombs while trapped in their enclaves," he said speaking at his palace in Brussels. "The current situation has gone on for far too long. It is a disgrace to all of humanity. We support the call by the United Nations Secretary-General to immediately end this unbearable crisis." -

The voluntary redundancy scheme aims to right-size operations for a smoother future, says CEO Nitinai Sirismatthakarn. Affected are the King Power Mahanakhon, Srivaree, and Pattaya branches, originally set up for tour groups. Changing tourism trends have led to an increase in independent travellers, which is causing a revenue dip. Airport duty-free shops remain unaffected by these shifts, still catering to individual passengers. King Power Duty Free Co is currently seeking to renegotiate its airport contracts with Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT). This comes as tourist arrivals in Thailand drop by about 5% this year, with a significant 33% fall in Chinese tourists. Consequently, AoT shares have plummeted by 35.6% since the year's start, worrying investors about potential revenue losses from King Power. Nitinai, King Power’s CEO since June 4 and a former AoT president, emphasises that these cost-control measures are independent of ongoing contract negotiations with AoT. He points out that similar adjustments are a common occurrence for many businesses, not just King Power. The company’s voluntary redundancy programme offers compensation according to labour laws, with no specific headcount reduction target. Employees at the closing branches can relocate to other company locations if they choose to stay, reported Bangkok Post. Founded in 1989, King Power remains Thailand’s largest duty-free shopping operator. Recently, AoT extended the payment terms for three contracts at five airports, allowing installment payments. Some minimum benefit payments have been deferred for eight months. Earlier this year, King Power considered terminating its airport contracts due to declining tourist numbers, highlighting the challenging circumstances facing the travel retail sector. Gaza has been at risk of famine for months- experts. Here's why they haven't declared one
The journalists' association of the French wire service Agence France-Presse (AFP) warned on Monday that staff working with the agency in Gaza are at risk of starvation and that "without intervention, the last reporters in Gaza will die." The Société des Journalistes de l’Agence France-Presse (SDJ) said that the agency still has "one freelance writer, three photographers, and six video freelancers" working in Gaza after most of its staff left the Strip last year. Along with a handful of others, they are some of the last Western journalists reporting on the ground in Gaza.
