Southern Border: Narathiwat flooded, schools close

NARATHIWAT, Dec 2 (TNA) – Heavy rains have continued for three consecutive days in the southern province of Narathiwat, causing floods in large areas and prompting almost 10 schools to close.

Floodwaters of 50-60 cm depth cover many lowland areas in the provincial seat and in Sungai Padi district, keeping small vehicles off the roads.

The Sungai Kolok River, one of Narathiwat's three main waterways, has overflowed local households situated on the riverside areas of Sungai Kolok, Waeng, and Tak Bai districts.

Local residents have moved their belongings to roadsides area in fear that the water level will rise if the rains continue. (TNA)
