When I type in www.hotmail.com I get redirected to:

login.live.com

I suggest you try typing that. I am also on True. There is one idiotic thing though. In the past I was always being redirected to msn and other pages in Thai, without any option to get a page in English (livejournal and blogspot still do this :) ) I then mailed with microsoft and the answer they gave me that you get the page in the language of the location of the local settings on your windows. So if in Windows you say you are in Thailand and even though you are using English as a language setting. You will always get all Microsoft pages in Thai only.

So I had to change my local settings to another locale to get the pages in a language I could read. The idiots at Microsoft and other companies will not give you the option to get pages in another language. I have a similar problem with Paypal. I have a bankaccount in HK so I get all of my emails from paypal in Chinese .... go figure! I mailed them about it and it is impossible for them to change it.

It is due to the firmware in the Sky Billion router. I called True on it and they admitted it freely. They said it is a promotion for True. I fought with them saying I am paying for a service which includes a router that should take me to the website "I" want to go to, not to go to the website "True" wants me to go to. I demanded they send it back to the manufacturer to have the original firmware put back on. Apparently these routers can not be flashed, only the manufacturer can do. They told me that they will look into it and call me back. Still waiting for that call, and not holding my breath. They also suggested that I buy another router myself.

This happens to me, as well, although with no consistency, and I mean -- no consistency. I would say 90% of the time it goes where I want it to go. But all of a sudden, seemingly out of the blue, regardless of the site I am at or going to, it will suddenly decide to go to true about 10% of the time. If I click go back a couple of times, then I can move ahead.

I have the same issues, highly highly annoying, especially when im playing online poker and im suddenly getting redirected to true's website AGHHHHHH.

Time to install another modem me thinks.

If your using Firefox why would you want to login to Hotmail ?

Yes I have a hotmail account but never open hotmail.com, as I set Firefox to receive it.

Click on File > Import and then use the Wizard.

On mine every email from hotmail is green in Firefox..... yahoo is purple

Making a statement like that, I am assuming you know which router we have, that True is currently giving out with ADSL 3mb/s packages. So please explain how to flash them. :)

Ya they explained that it is programmed to redirect to the True homepage after every time it resets or is restarted. Seems to me like it resets often, no idea why. I actually hear it click sometimes when it resets. I agree, it happens about 10% of the time which is incredibly annoying. Only in Thailand could a company get away with this. Totally unacceptable for anyone else.

I'm not going to pretend to know what router you have, but I have come across many different (ISP branded) routers in my line of work. While the web interface can be used to configure the router in a number of ways, options are very limited. Most routers allow FTP, TFTP and Telnet access. If you're unable to perform certain tasks, use the CLI (Command Line Interface) instead of the web interface.

Commands used to access a router at the Command Prompt:

# Access router via Telnet
telnet 192.168.x.x

# Access router via FTP
ftp 192.168.x.x

? = lists commands
bin = sets binary transfer type
lcd = change local working directory
put = send one file
bye = terminate session and exit

# Upgrade firmware using TFTP
tftp 192.168.x.x -i put <filename>.bin

Some routers may have Telnet and/or TFTP disabled. You can enable it using the web interface "Access Control" or service control list.

Used to happen to me as well before I brought a dedicated wifi router and hooked the modem up with it (bridged). Now it doesn't happen any more. dam_n annoying it was for me as well.

You could find the IP address for the mail server that defaults to the laguage of your choice, then edit your local hosts file ( link ).

Random example (simplified).

If your attempt to get to Wild-Email-Server.com always get rerouted to www.Wild-Email-Server.co.th, find out the IP address for your target server and add that information into your local hosts file.

84.265.45.66 www.Wild-Email-Server.com

---------------------------------------------------------------

You might like to read this as well about stoping some popups etc. by modifying the hosts file.

This is really annoying, it won't even let my PS3 connect to the Playstation Network unless I first open the PS3 browser and get redirected to the true landing page. What about people with an Xbox? It doesn't have a browser so can they even get online with the router true supplies if it redirects to the true landing page?

It's ridiculous that true are allowed to get away with this. Fortunately I have my own router already so I guess I'll be setting that up later.

I'm having this problem too. I have the Zyxel 1-port router they gave me (they disconnected my old router for some reason), and I get that d***** screen often. It's especially bad when I am replying in a forum, because I can't back out, but have to save my reply, close the window, log in to the forum, etc. etc...

After ~10 calls to True I got someone to tell me to flash the router ROM. I went to the Zyxel site, downloaded the ROM update "For True Customers" and followed the instructions with the engineer on the phone. It didn't go away, even after 2 reboots.

Since then I've kept calling, and they act like they have never heard of this before. They tell me someone will call back, and when they do, they appear not to understand the problem (they tell me this will happen only when I first connect, but I am always online). Today they tried to send an engineer, but he called ahead, spoke no English, and then didn't show up.

I'm not sure which is worse - that irritating ad, or True's inability to admit they are shoving this down our throat. :):D:D:D

glad to see I am not the only one, I want to throw this %*$%^$ modem out the window... Zyxel 1-port model as well, came with a new 6mbps package... I have an old model I dug out, but can't remember the administrator login :)

Do a hard reset. There should be a tiny reset button at the back of the device. Press the reset button for 15-30 seconds and then release it. This will restore the device to its factory default settings. Most routers use 'admin' or blank username/password.

You could also "Google" the make/model number of the device to obtain the login information.

Thanks, that's what I did but still could not get in... on of those weird "Syslink" modems that came in the ADSL package some years back, absolutely no information about it on the web... doesn't matter, just came home with a brand new Dlink modem, cost the fortune of 1090 baht :) Hooked it up, and internet works as it should... yeay!

A customer service rep admitted this landing page is a result of an agreement they have with Google. Obviously they get a commission every time someone searches google via their page. It's very disappointing they don't have an option in firmware to disable this for advanced users. Their answer was for me to buy my own router.

Anyway, I tried to use a hex editor to look for the landing page link in the firmware but I didn't find any. Maybe it's encrypted. I don't really know what I'm doing reverse-engineering this it was just a quick try.

I see that that True Landing page that it often re-directs to now has an updated firmware for this Billion Sky modem. Has anybody tried it? Does it fix this BS of it redirecting? Maybe if enough people complained (as I have several times) they may have corrected it? (I know, very unlikely!)

I just wanted to add that even changing to a new modem won't change a dam_n thing. I've just bought a new TP-LINK W8901G and I got the same landing page.

Have something to do with your browser. When I use Chrome or IE, I don't get that dam_n landing page again and again whereas in FF, I keep getting them every now and then on every single page I visit, e.g. Google mail, google calendar, torr*ntz.com, and etc.

So go figure where the problem lies now. I'm really tired with trying everything. I'm just glad that the landing page don't show up with Chrome and IE.

EDIT:

Just update the TP-LINK firmware from the official website, same thing... so that's not a FIRMWARE issue.

By the way, I'm bound to a year contract with true... so can't really change to other ISP...

This is driving me mad...... i got True Online 12MB package the other day. I have very happy with the speed, on average 11 Mbs.

Every so often it takes me back to the landing page, especially when using my iPad or iPhone to connect.

I have the ZyXel router that they gave me.

Question, in order to stop being directed to the landing page, cant i just go and get a nice new router? will this solve the issue?

I see on an earlier reply post that it doesn't but can anyone else voucher that?

fixed really easily without any needs for flashing routers. True actually helped me do it via online chat. If you know your ip address though you won't need it.

In your browsers address bar, type in your routers ip address. Brings up the router log in page. the password is 'password'. Then on the left menu click 'advanced' then click 'landing page'. Uncheck the box. save the new settings. wait 30 seconds. reboot your router and then yoour computer/iphone connecting to the router and all is good.

Hope it works for you.

If you're using Firefox go to "Tools" and then "Clear Recent History" check to clear all but your passwords. That stops the redirection to True for a day or so. Then you need to do it again. Works for me.

This happens to me also. I find that going to Google first and searching for the page that I want to go to usually avoids it being redirected back to True.

Give it a go and see if it works. I've had the same router (Billion Sky) for 3 years, but the problem of being redirected to True only started earlier this year, so I'm pretty sure that the modem isn't the problem. I thought it might be True dropping cookies so as to get their page hits up. If the new router works, let us know. I'll get a new one too!

My guess there is a transparent proxy which registers your visit to the landing page.

Once you've loaded the page in full, you may continue to your regular sites until you disconnect.

It doesn't seem to be 100% working though, as some connections are let through.

If you are unhappy with this scheme, complain to True.

But (and this is the important part), also complain to whoever is represented on the landing page.

If True indeed earns commission from Google from this, I'm sure G wouldn't approve of this Landing Page being shoved down consumers throat.
