I have a retirement visa, issued at Jomtien. I am presently travelling in Thailand (now in Pai) and am due for a 90 day reporting in a week or two. My question is: is there an immigration office in Mae Hong Son and will I be able to report there?

Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the above . .

How about crossing the border at Mae Sai (I have the necessary re-entry permit stamp). I don't fancy the postal option, a quick trip across the border will solve the problem, right?

Thanks again . . ./

Just looked at the map! Mae Sai is quite a distance from Pai!

As stunningly beautiful as this area is to M'cycle or drive through . . . presuming that a border-cross would negate the need to 90 day report . . .

Is there a closer border crossing closer to Pai than Mae Sai?

I'm due to report on or before the 12th December, BTW.

That is a lot less than several weeks so if local immigration will not accept you will have to make a border run. I am not familiar with crossings available from that area but Laos might also be an option.

Yes . . 5 days don't add up to a few weeks, do they? Must be that relaxed lifestyle here that has me miscalculating time!

Looks like the Mae Sai trip is the best option. Thanks to you for clarifying things. I'll get packing.

Final point if anyone is still reading . . .

What are the consequences if I turn up a few days late at Mae Sai to exit the country instead of doing the 90 day report?

We have family up for a few days, my 90 days expire on the 12th (actually could be the 10th as there have been 2 x 31 day months in Oct and Nov), I can/would like to drive up to Mae Sai a few days after the 12th, once our visitors have left, therefore putting me a few days over.

Will that only incur a minor fine? I have always been punctual in the past so have no idea how 90 day overstays are dealt with . . /.

You should have a slip of paper with the date on it.

Unless, of course, it's the first report after entering the country.

You could always go to the local imm office and explain your situation to them.
